Back to the Start

Slowly, as if climbing a long dark staircase, Agromnir pulled himself out of a deep sleep. Leaning up a bit, he opened his sleep-sticky eyes, glanced about the softly lit room, and rubbed his eyes before looking again. His room was fairly small and the bed underneath him was of average size. There was a dark window on the wall to his left, showing that it was sometime in the night. On the wall to his right there was a half-closed door and through the opening a figure walked by. Other than that, a messy table and a couple chairs was all there was for furniture.

The watchman sighed and peered down at his wrapped-up wound on his right thigh. A slightly more than small amount of blood showed through the white cloth, but it wasn't too bad. It wasn't hurting near as much as it did before, but it still stung a bit.

Agrom thought back to the ambush with Wolfe and them. We just had to get attacked by orcs, and I just HAD to get this delicious cut in my leg. Yeeeup. That’s the way of things. …It could have been worse though. And he knew it.

Shaking his head, he closed his eyes and leaned his head back against the pillow as he continued his thoughts. He was now back in Bree... and he was most glad to be back, even with the wound. He had gone with the elf... but only because he felt he owed him for possibly saving his life. Yet, had he really paid him back? He was barely any help while blocking the passage into Evendim. He managed to slay one orc when ambushed, but that cost him the cut.

They’d be perfectly fine without me, he said mentally, almost mouthing the unheard words.

He then fully realized that there was really no way for a simple watchman of Bree to properly pay back Edhelfaron, an elf warrior who has had years upon years of experience. The best he could do was exactly what those of Draugmir told him to do. Keep watch in Bree, and report anything important (which he was already good at). Particularly, though, for this Easterling threat. Besides that, he was back to the start. No more insane life-threatening adventures. Definitely no more of those.

Time will tell if that is true.
