Aeroden's Journal, Entry 3

Once again, I have naught but good things to say of the lands of Bree. I have been been exploring further away from the town, seeing new sights looking for new herbs and other materials. The Inn here in Hookworth is quite cozy, and despite my knowledge that this will be a temporary place to stay, it already feels like a home to me.

The market yesterday was quite enjoyable. I saw Firithain selling wares, including some weaponry. He approached me and apologized for the previous evening, of when he had seen Brynleigh and I. Of course I forgave him, as I know he is very protective of her, which I greatly respect. Ah, and I have a student! I am very pleased, and the woman seems quite eager to begin learning anything there is to know! I look forward to finally extend my services to someone.

Ah, now for the events of today. Not much had transpired, as I had spent much of my time experimenting with herbs and studying the history of Bree. Soon, in the evening, Brynleigh stopped by to say 'hello'. I was quite glad to see her, and I was in dire need of a break as well. She showed me around some of the places of Hookworth, beginning with her home. It is a somber thing to see, Brynleigh standing in front of a home with memories of a lost loved one. She invited me inside, if only briefly. I was honored and humbled by her doing so, as she had not had another step into her home since she lost her husband.

Then she showed me the local tavern there, and it is a lovely place! Quite a step up from the Pony (no offense, Barliman, you were quite kind during my stay there). Brynleigh and I had tea, with idle chatter, and she asked a rather odd question. She asked if I had ever had a lover, which I found quite odd. This question has been on my mind since she asked it. The the conversation continued with light topics until she asked me of the loss of my father and child. I had never been asked of my past until now, and it suddenly came to me how heavy a burden I had been carrying along with me for so long. I told her my tale, and wept for them for the first time since they were buried. Brynleigh brought me great comfort that night, and for that I am forever indebted to her. Ah, but on a lighter note, she will be showing me the library in Hookworth! And on top of that, she also seemed interested in me sharing my knowledge with her! I look forward to my stay here in Bree, and in Hookworth. It has been a joy and honor thus far.

I have been feeling incredibly hopeful of my stay here. I dearly wish to finally settle here, and it seems that that goal is within my grasp. I feel incredibly awful having to be paid for my tutoring services, but alas, I am already offering them at the lowest price I can. This is another step closer to me having a house of my own, and that in turn will hopefully lead to a family of my own.
