Nindrahil, our leader, called me over for a meeting. She would like for Arnkeld and I to visit the Old Greenway Fort. We looked through old drawings and records done by the Custodians in an earlier age and she told me she was keen to get an idea for comparison on what the Old Greenway Fort looked like now. We both agreed that it would be prudent to record an updated entry on this location. I had been past it before and knew there was an old campsite overlooking the ruins where Arn and I could set up camp for a while, giving him time to record and draw his findings. Meanwhile I would have plenty of time to trap some animals as the Northern Bree-fields have excellent areas for hunting.
I had a meal with Nindrahil and we talked through the afternoon. I am forever overwhelmed by conversation with someone who has lived through the ages, she pours out her endless knowledge and it humbles me, a poor mortal creature I am.
I went home by dusk, expecting to spend the night alone as I knew Arn would not return from Bree until the next day. As he came home we talked about the trip to the Old Greenway Fort and he was as keen as I to get out on a trip together. Oh, how I loathe city life, but it pains me to know that Arn forever travels the road to Bree on his own when he takes such joy from us traveling together.
Packed and ready a day later we left a note in case Leiff should stop by. We went up the road to say goodbye to Nindrahil first and found Henieth deep in study. She wished us fair travels and said she could not wait to hear more about our adventure.
As the Old Greenway Fort is close by the road, Arn had convinced me to go by horse. I much prefer traveling by foot, but I knew we would have much to carry back with us, so I saw some sense in his suggestion. This also meant that we reached the old Fort faster and were able to set up camp in the place I remembered from my earlier travels. Arn, as always, were so enthusiastic to get started and I could see that this would be quite the project. Although now in complete ruin, the old Greenway Fort is still an impressive sight and large parts of the stone foundation still remain.
We spent nearly 5 days on site, and whilst I was in luck and managed to track down a pack of wolves and even a bear, I was growing restless near the end. Arn spoke at length about the carvings on the ruin, the seven-pointed stars, symbolising the old kingdom and the statue of a king and I already know Nindrahil and him will be busy for days when we return, so this means I will likely have to sell the hides myself this time. I am already thinking I might head to Combe and pay a visit to good old Nate Fleetfoot to see if he is interested in buying, as this will save me a trip into busy Bree.
On our second last day at the Old Greenway Fort I met Andreg, one of the Rangers. It is rare indeed to meet them as they often remain hidden on their travels. I invited him to share a meal at our campfire and surprisingly he agreed. He told us he is currently headed north as orcs have been seen in the North Downs. These are ill tidings, especially with the rumours of of troubles stirring to the east and to the south. He was not willing to give up much detail about his travel, but instead suggested I mention to Nindrahil that bandits have set up camp close to Combe, in some ruins in Chetwood. Orcs and Bandits, these are scary times indeed. Arn and I will have to remain careful in our travels from now on as neither of us are fighters.
With these rather disheartening news we set towards home the next afternoon. I remain positive about the records and drawings that Arn has done, they will be a good addition to our journals, but I will need to have a word with Nindrahil about the tidings of Andreg.
