The Adventures of Askelin Ashdown: 2, Be polite, keep your head down...

I have settled into the barracks as agreed by my new captain, Ebold. It is a nice roomy place and fairly well decorated given the sort of work we generally do. I am thankful indeed for not having to pay upkeep as such, though it goes without saying that I've agreed to keep the place tidy and ensure that the quarters are in good condition.

I've been getting to know a few of my new companions in this little business and I have mixed feelings to say the least. They are all good people... 'Good' as in the sense that they're not evil. But I would not say that all of them have perfect or even barely acceptable morals...

Dagramir for instance loiters around the inn like a wolf praying among the sheep that happen to be any loosely dressed female who walks in through the doors for his next thrilling night.

I do not care for such games and it is not my intention to be wound up in such petty dramas. I'm here to work and make some coin doing what I know I am good at doing. Following orders and using a spear!

Taala is a lass I only know little about, she's what I would call a joker... Always a wry grin on her face and constantly throwing jests and jokes around... Though I can see where one may mistake those jests for demeaning snarky comments or otherwise offensive insults... But then again... This *is* a militant group. I will not pretend to be on a high horse. I'm already subject to a lot of the jokes and banter from the others... Perhaps because they don't know what I'm quite capable of yet.

Ealstan... He's older, a tad bit more cynical, age had wearied his patience for silly games and his tolerance for nonsense is all but non existent. I feel that he is wiser and more sensible. I'll do well to listen to what he has to say though he may be grumpy at times. He may keep me safe in the end.

Our captain, Ebold seems quite down to Earth, I do not know him enough to judge whether he is a *good* leader. But he commands such a respectable presence already. He seems to be the glue that keeps this rag tag company together.

There are still many other folk I ought to meet. But for now I'm keeping my head down and earning my keep... Words mean naught unless an opportunity arises to carry out those words in deed. And I intend to prove my worth just like that!

My Old Master had always taught me to be polite and good mannered even in the face of not so polite fellows. Something within me believes that may change given time though.

Do not take this the wrong way however, I think my new allies are fun folk and it is a good laugh being around them. and more importantly I have no doubt that they will be stout companions when our swords need be drawn...

It's not long until I believe that day may come. I've overheard the captain mumble about a possible job for us to do... Finally, a chance to really prove myself!
