The Cold-Drake Birizablag
The Cold-Drake Birizablag as it was found lurking in the northern mines of the Blue Mountains. My distant cousin Fruni fought it deep within the mines of Gamil Zirak. During the fall of Beleriand, many of the tunnels had collapsed and a great many unrefined gold ore had been lost to stone and water. One of the cold-drakes of Forodwaith, Birizablag, made this mine his lair in our absence and apparently he had dug out much of the old tunnel system. There he had gathered all the gold ore he could find and in the course of thousands of years he had consumed much of it. When Fruni slayed the wyrm in the watery tunnels, he cut the creature open only to find raw gold inside. Therefore we called the drake Birizablag, or Gold-eater. Fruni was commended for his brave deeds and, as I have told elsewhere, he became Warden of the Mines and was granted the Dragon Helm of Ered Luin, partly forged from the gold found inside the belly of the beast. But the victory was paid for with many lives, as many of our close kinsmen died to the rampage of the beast. It is a day we in our family have come to call 'Hammerfall'.
