Before the Dawn

The young man gurgled and spat blood on the cold stone floor as he looked up to the elf, who stood impatiently waiting on his pupil to regain himself.

"Get up, you don't learn when you're laying on the flood bleeding." Cerythael scoffed and folded his arms across his chest. The elf shook his head as he looked down to the man.

"You cheated, I wasn't ready!" The young man spat blood again, wiping his mouth and nose with his arm and preparing his stance once more.

"You say you train the way you fight, yes? If this was the case you'd have been dead moments ago. There is no honor in fighting, not with our enemy. There is simply dead and alive, only you can decide if you're going to walk away. You can survive a fight, or you can thrive in a fight. Now if you're done whining like a whipped pup, we have more lessons." Cerythael snapped in a firm tone, his eyes narrowing as he nodded towards the bar with rounded weights.

Pellam looked to the bar, then to the elf with a confused expression. "And what am I do to with this?"

Cerythael scoffed and placed himself as if he were about to preform a push up, how ever with one hand on the bar. He pushed himself up and rolled the bar to his other hand, catching it before doing it again. "Balance and composure, your two greatest allies in a fight. Speed is good, how ever accuracy is final. Your enemy will not be impressed if you loose four arrows and only one of them find their mark. If you cannot keep yourself composed during a fight, you will die by more experienced hands." Cerythael stood and motioned for Pellam to try as he continued to lecture.

"Meaning if your emotions take hold then you will not see the blade coming for your ribs nor the arrow intended for your heart. Dig deep within yourself and hold fast as a great wall. It takes years to master, but it can be done." Cerythael stood beside him, watching him struggle with the exercise at first but quickly regaining himself.

"To continue on this path, it will break you but broken bones heal stronger. It will be a lonely road, no one will know what you fight for except for The Lady, The Hunter and I. Remember, my friend. Not all who wander are lost. We fight in the dark so that the enemy not only fears the dawn, but the darkness they call home." The elf nodded slowly and turned to leave the man to his work out.
