Ventris Journal, Entry Four

Entry: Fourth Dated: 22nd of July Subject: Dreams I have been plagued by dreams of late, which in itself is nothing new. I have barely met a single solider who does not suffer from nightmares from time to time, but none are so terrifying and repeatable then mine. *Isilorbor sits in bed as he writes this, Lendes by his side with Lendil in her arms trying to get him to calm down to fall asleep* It has troubled me almost every other night, defeating my every attempt of peaceful sleep. It all starts with me standing on a green hill, overlooking a grass land of a place I do not recognize but it feels like home. The sky is cloudless and the sun warm upon my skin, the wind as sweet to me as the rarest flower. *Smiles a little at the first part of the dream, while he can feel Lendil by his side cuddling up between his mother and father* I can see a crowd of people in the fields before me. I cannot see their faces, but my mind can tell who is who; like I can feel who they are. My mother, father, daughters, friends, wife, everyone who mean’s more to me then I can put down in words are walking towards me. In the sky are flights of eagles, hundreds of them it seems. They are fly high in the sky with such grace and freedom it makes me even now smile. *Lendes looks over Isilorbor’s shoulder and places an encouraging kiss on his cheek, leaning her head on his shoulder while Lendil sits between them* From out of no where, there is a blinding flash of light, like the sun has exploded. I throw my arms up to shield my eyes as the blinding light sends me reeling, blinking to regain my sight. When I am able to see again, the green landscape is ablaze with fire. The once blue sky is now as a rust red, tree’s burn and each blade of grass slowly turns to ash in the face of such an onslaught. I look down into the crowd and see them burn. They fall to the ground, trying to put the flames out themselves while screaming in pure agony. Each eagle catches fire, their falling feathers set aflame and fall like fiery rain. The crowd now look upon me, their screams calling for me to help them. I try to stand forward, but I am on my knees with white hot chains holding my wrists in place. I do not know I am being held until they call for me to help, the pain from the burning metal making me howl into the sky. The eagles’ cry now joins in with that of the crowd, falling from the sky to join them as their bodies turn to ash. All around me, the land is now lifeless and barren, all covered in ash and the reek of burnt wood. In one final bout of horror, the wind suddenly picks up, catching the ash into a wave and throws it like a javelin towards me. I scream has it hits me, and I wake up with that very same scream on my lips. *Lendes places her free arm around her husband, proud of him that he put his dreams to note and kisses him again on the cheek* I have been to see a healer in Combe, who has seen fit to give me a mixture of some foul smelling and tasting drink. I must drink it after dinner but before I retire to bed. So far, I have enjoyed many nights of total sleep and dreamless nights. I am to stay on this mixture for another few weeks, unfortunately. I am at a lost for words to describe how awful it tastes! I feel I cannot write anymore, and my next entry will find something more reverent. *Isilorbor waits for the ink to dry and closes his journal, wrapping his arms around Lendes and Lendil and falls to sleep*
