Dunnarwen had always been very sure of herself. This time around, however, she had to admit, she was a little doubtful. As her horse plodded through the desert-like terrain of the Barandalf, she thought long and hard about her purpose. Did she even have a legitimate purpose? She wondered about that one particular question the most. She needed to get a grip. At this rate, she would get caught unawares and then she'll be in trouble for sure.
Just a few days ago, she finally had her Oath-Taking Ceremony. She pledged her oath in front of a small host of Elves, the Lord of her Order, and the Túr of the House. A day after the celebration, she set off on her first scouting trip. As excited as she was to finally step out of the Valley as an Arrow, she could not shake off this dreadful feeling. Perhaps things were moving too quickly for her liking.
No. She shook her head. I must not allow myself any room for doubt. I made the correct decision for myself and I shall stand by that decision, dreadful feelings or no.
She made no stops on her way to Meluinen. Once there, she took her rest and decided to stay a while. She was not due back to Imladris for quite some time anyway.
On the day she was due to start traveling back home, she noticed her mare acting a bit unusual. Dunnarwen's brows were furrowed as she inspected Gilloth's place in the stables. One of her saddlebags looked disturbed in the corner. With a wary eye, Dunnarwen examined the damage made to her supplies.
Nothing was missing. Well, except the batch of mushrooms that she had made during her journey. She remembered trying to shoo Gilloth away from the fire when she was making them. Turning her head, she looked at the horse and gave a wry smirk. "I told you these weren't for you, Gilloth."
If horses could speak this mare would have said something along the lines of, "Well, Mistress, they just smelled so good and I could not resist." Gilloth looked positively pathetic at that point.
Dunnarwen rolled her eyes as she stood up, repressing a laugh. "Ai, Gilloth, you must listen to me, and not just when I ride you. You are my companion, yes, but I cannot have you sick because you ate my food." She stepped out of the stable quickly and motioned at one of the Elves of Meluinen to come over so they could look at Gilloth. They would have to stay a few more days it seems.
