Tales of the Mute - A Woolly Problem

After a long day, Tosie spent some time with Arenborne at the Pony. It didn't last for too long, though, because she had to go see her brother about the horses, (her mare had been really spooked as of late), and Ealbrand was a wizard when it came to animals.

Nearing the stables by the West Gate, where her mare awaited her, she stumbled across a small, young sheep lying in the ground, Upon closer inspection, she noticed that the poor animal was injured. She knelt by it and touched it's head, ignoring the blood that got on the ends of her skirts. Tosie then wrapped him in her cloak and picked the small animal up, clucking her tongue at her horse and taking its reins, and she set off for her home, where Ealbrand was waiting for her.

When she finally reached the house she put the injured sheep down inside the gate, her face looking pained as the sheep cried. The horse was left to roam the yard and she quickly went up the stairs, rushing into the house. Tosie hurried inside, looking around for Ealbrand. Her white dress had dark red stains on the bottom, and she looked distraught.

Ealbrand blinks a few times, seeing Tosie enter with blood covering her dress, and he looks up from his breakfast, half a slice of bacon hanging from his mouth. He stuffs it in quickly, standing up in a rush. "What happened? Are you hurt, sister?"

Tosie shook her head and she beckoned to him before she quickly disappeared outside again. She hurried over to the bundle on the ground, dropping to her knees beside the injured sheep, who gave a soft bleat.

Ealbrand follows her outside, frowning in concern, and he looks down at the wounded sheep, tilting his head. "What happened?" He asks softly, stepping over and dropping to a crouch.

Tosie shook her head, seeming to be greatly upset and it grew the more that the sheep cried. She looked up at him helplessly before looking back down at the young sheep.

Ealbrand furrows his brows, looking the sheep over, gently touching the broken leg. He strokes its head gently, wincing as he looks to Tosie. "Hold it still. This will hurt. Then get me some bandages, and two thick sticks, all right?"

Tosie leaned over and she hugged the sheep, careful to mind the leg, and she looked away from whatever Ealbrand was about to do, squeezing her eyes shut.

Ealbrand takes a deep breath, looking sympathetically down at the sheep, before he quickly snaps the leg back into place. He places a firm hand on its side, as it tries to get up and flee, 'shh'ing and trying to calm it. "The bandages and sticks, sister. It needs a splint."

Tosie winced at the snap, especially when the sheep started to cry and bleat even louder. She got up and ran inside to retrieve the bandages from the cabinet, before coming back out. After collecting two nice-sized sticks, she brought everything back to Ealbrand, tears forming in her eyes.

Ealbrand nods in approval, at the supplies she brings, trying to smile reassuringly. He sets to work quickly and firmly binding the splint around the sheep's leg, with extra bandages to stop any bleeding. "Now... Check this every day, make sure it does not get infected. Because to be honest, I do not know how to treat infection in sheep."

She nodded a bit and she sat down beside the sheep, quietly stroking it's head. She leaned over and kissed it's nose, nodding slightly again.

Ealbrand smiles down at his sister and her new sheep, drying his hands of any blood with spare bandages, and he sits down as well. "Try to keep it off that leg, just in case, too."

Tosie nodded and kissed the sheep again before she stood up. She spared the sheep another glance before she went over to her horse and brought it around back to the stable. After closing the gate, all four of their horses fed and seeming content, she walked back to them and then gestured to the house, noting that it it would grow dark in a few hours She didn't want to leave the poor thing outside in the dark, especially if it couldn't even walk!

Ealbrand kept an eye on the spooked mare, as Tosie brought her around, raising a brow curiously. He shakes it off, and he leans down to pick up the sheep, gently carrying it inside the house.

Tosie smiled as Ealbrand took the sheep and she hurried after him to go inside. He looks around, as he carries the sheep, tilting his head. He moves to set the animal down on the short table gently, to let it rest.

Tosie looked down at the sheep, petting his head. She then left them and went into her room to change out of the blood stained dress.

Ealbrand stayed in the main room, keeping an eye on the sheep, as he continued his breakfast. Om nom nom, bacon. She wrinkled her nose, never having been a fan of bacon.

Tosie returned later, wearing one of her robes. She picked up a carrot from his plate and offered it to the sheep, not really sure what it eats.

Ealbrand grins slightly, looking up at Tosie, and he nods towards the pantries. "Lettuce, I think. Something leafy." He offers quietly, reaching out to pat the sheep on the head.

Tosie nodded and turned to the cabinet, opening it and looking for the lettuce. She shook her head, seeing that they did not have any.

Ealbrand furrows his brows, looking over, and he tilts his head. "Do we have anything green and leafy?" He asks curiously, leaning back in his chair, trying to investigate the pantry from the table. Tosie shook her head. She definitely needed to run to the market soon, the cabinet was near empty.

Ealbrand scratches his beard thoughtfully, 'hmm'ing. "Okay then." He offers up another carrot to the sheep, experimentally. Tosie leaned over and picked up the basket she usually brought to the market, going over to the table and holding it out to him with a grin.

Ealbrand rolls his eyes a bit, smirking up at Tosie, and he stands up, taking the basket in hand. "Oh, fine... I'll return in a while, little sister."

Tosie motioned for him to wait and she wrote him a small grocery list, before she dropped it into the basket and smiled brightly.

Ealbrand rolls his eyes again, with a low chuckle, and he gives her a little wave before he departs, humming as he starts down the road. She waved goodbye to him before she turned back to the sheep. She wandered into Ealbrand's room, where a large wooden chest was. Opening it, she removed the blankets they tucked away until winter and brought them into her room, making a nice pallet on the rug. She then returned to the main room and gently picked up the sheep, carrying him in and placing him down on the blankets.

She nodded before she climbed onto her own bed, picking up her journal to begin a new sketch.
