542nd year of the Sun of the First Age, news came from the sea patrol that an unidentified ship had managed to sail passed The Enchanted Islands, and was getting close to Valinor. This unexpected arrival from the sea was at first, cause for much concern.
Fair and wonderful was the mysterious vessel, pure and bright. Eärendil the Mariner was at the helm. Far he had journeyed in his ship, into the vastness of the Great Sea. Vingilótë was her name, it had white timbers of birchwood from Nimbrethil, oars of gold, sails of silver, and a prow in the shape of a delicate swan.
On this day I was sailing my ship Fëa Alquarámë along the coast, when in the glorious light of a Valinor's sunset, first I saw the white vessel glide gently into the early evening breeze towards the bay of Alqualondë. Eärendil had come seeking assistance and aid for Men and Elves in Middle-earth, to fight against the evil of Morgoth - and, after hearing his tales, the Valar accepted his plea.
He was not an elf, nor was he completely human - he was what we call a 'Peredhil ', he was an Half-elven. He had married Elwing, a descendent of Beren and Luthien. Eärendil and Elwing had two sons, Elrond and Elros.
Soon after his council, the Valar called upon all the mariners of Valinor, for every vessel was needed to transport a great host to Middle-earth in the fight against Morgoth. Eärendil, at the front of the mighty host, sailed Vingilótë back to Middle-earth , blessed by the Valar - on his brow one of the fabled Silmarils.
Despite my father's reservations, I volunteered myself and Fëa Alquarámë to aid the Host of the Valar. I was chosen as one of the transport ships, in charge of supplies. On the day of our departure, a great numbers of vessels were ready to sail east, across The Great Sea. It was a sight I will never forget.
