Motherly Values
It had been a few days now since Fiontann had broken Chaney’s heart. To her the anger, the desire for revenge, the humiliation was still very raw, raw indeed. She had now managed to start venturing away from the bed and sitting a little in the wooden chair by Taala’s front window.
The days continued to go by and Chaney had the strength now to venture out into Taala’s garden. She would sit up on the left by the large oak looking out onto the dirt track which went close by. She would see one or two folk come passing by. She cared not for them, however, and would just sit and reflect on everything that had happened in so shorter time.
Taala had even allowed Bertnar, Chaney’s trusty and most loyal of friends, her horse stay in her house grounds. This gave Chaney something to keep her mind occupied. He did, however, keep reminding her of the day that Fiontann had given her the horse. This would make the anger well up inside of her too, but at the same time her steed would make her happy and smile at the same time. Bertnar, unlike Fiontann, was a most loyal and trustworthy friend.
Chaney would think how peculiar that animals would make far better companions than men. She did not see it this way with women though. She had her best friend Taala looking after her, and she also had Neyaa from next door whom would pop in every other day to ensure her wellbeing. She had in fact become quite the motherly figure to Chaney.
It was on one such day that Neyaa had paid Chaney a visit that she began to really look up toward Neyaa as a mother figure to herself. It had all started earlier in the morning when Oxlaide, one of the men whom had rescued Chaney, came by on his horse. Chaney had wished for him to push off and had no interest in him whatsoever.
Throughout the day as Chaney visited, her now favorite part of Taala’s garden, Oxlaide would keep riding by, and on the last occasion he would stop and sit close by her. It was as if he were keeping watch over her or something. Chaney of course would start to get distressed at this. If it wasn’t for Neyaa and Deredan, whom had come to visit her, Chaney may have gone as far as attacking Ox, even though she was obviously still in a weak state. The mind, however, plays funny tricks upon a person when feeling so physically and mentally low.
Just in the nick of time Neyaa would usher Chaney into the house and help her to bed. Neyaa would send Deredan for some hot stew that they had just made and brought along with them, and some of the Frostbluff wine, which even had some of the elixir that Fastdred had concocted in it.
Chaney managed a little of both, and would feel much better for it. It was at this time that Neyaa would learn the identities of the two men whom Chaney had sworn revenge against. One being Fiontann, the former Dawner, and good friend to Neyaa. The other being a man known as The Grey Warden. Both Neyaa and Deredan were in utter shock at Chaney mentioning these two men. Two men that they both knew and loved so well.
One thing was for sure, Neyaa now had a lot to think about. They all had a lot to think about. Somewhere at some point down the line the storm clouds would gather. But for now Neyaa would comfort a distressed Chaney until she managed to fall asleep, due no doubt to the elixir within the wine. She would rest safe in the knowledge that Chaney was on the mend and getting stronger by the day……………
