"It did not take the enemy long to find us. The final rays of the sun shone on our polished armour and shields, while our banner stood in the middle of our circle, proudly displaying my banner to our enemy. Hillmen of Rhudaur came forward out of the bushes, not waiting any order of their commanders. With wild howls and battlecries, they came charging at us. Yet we, of the Eldar, stood strong. The wave of enemies clashed against our shields, while we started our bloody work. The shield bearers wielded their swords to stab over their shields, while those behind us used their spears to attack them overhead. Their first assault was pushed back with ease, killing several of them, while we did not even count any wounds. That would change, however..."
"Time after time they came, and time after time we pushed them back. Four assault they did already, and only two of my men were slain, while nearly a hundred of them lay dead or mortally wounded on the forest soil. 'Our arrows are running low, my lord.' said one of the scouts during a moment of rest. 'How many do you have left?' The scout looked grim at me and answered that they had enough to repel two more attacks, if they were careful. Several of my warriors counted wounds or bruises as well. We needed to make sure this would not go on for too long..."
" 'Arodlach! Take twenty men from our inner circle and tell them to prepare for a charge.' He nodded quickly and ran off to do as I asked him. He knew what I was up to, and so did the others of my company. Yet the scouts looked at me with large eyes. 'Charge? What is this madness, Elf?' I still hear his words. But how could I blame him? He had never fought alongside the Eldar, and with us buying time for those I sent back, we could not show them what we are truly capable of. Yet that was about to change..."
"Those that were commanded to charge were placed across the entire circle, ready to leap forward once the shieldwall will create an opening. We did not have to wait any longer, for we saw how the hillmen gathered again. This time, we noticed how they concentrated more men on a single point, with the intention of smashing through our line. 'Arodlach, you take command of the shield bearers once we charge.' He nodded again, taking his position in the circle. The scouts looked at each other with worried expressions in their eyes, though the only thing I told them to do was to stay close to my warriors once we break formation. They did not look comforted, but nodded that they would follow. Then the horns sounded again..."
