Journal, 360th entry, Friends and Friendship

Dear Mother and Father,

What with requests for decorating houses and travelling all across Middle Earth to find metals and gems for my jewellery, I have been very busy this past year. So much has happened and I have hardly had time to write about it! I have met many friendly and helpful people in my travels and Sebbi who you might remember from an earlier entry has become a good friend. We parted ways in Bree, but occasionally we meet up in the oddest of places. Then there is Tondher, a weaponsmith living in Combe. He is a nice enough man but a little narrowminded. Also Shrindrae, a rather strange elf has crossed my path during a trip into the Trollshaws. There seem to be many elves haunting the Trollshaws, not only trolls! I helped him defeat some woodtrolls in a lovely place named Eryn Singor and we became friends. I sometimes wonder if all the strange people I meet will make you shake your head in displeasure as I have come to the realisation that most hobbits stay in the Shire and do not leave for their whole lives! This seems odd to me now, having travelled since an early age with Rua, but I suppose my whole upbringing has been strange. It feels difficult to make friends with other hobbits. I do not know if this is because I am too strange for them or that I am too frightened to let them know who I truly am. Perhaps it is a little of both. But I am trying. Pelippa my neighbour is a wonderful cook and has helped me hone my skill with a frying pan. Then there is Binnie and Docle and Bero, all in the Shire. Binnie and Bero are farmers and Docle is a minstrel. They seem to tolerate me well enough. I even met a hobbitlad named Bucky and thought I had fallen in love. Sadly, it was not to be and I was very angry about how it ended. But time heals all wounds as they say and travelling and being busy has helped me get over it. I hope this entry finds you well.

Your loving Zara
