A student and a warrior

This page is seemingly the first in a series of past recordings. In these pages the author simply states his ambition and how he hopes to achieve it, or at least make a start.

I am new to this sort of thing, keeping a diary and the likes but I will not be so conventionally minded as to start with 'Dear diary'. I write this not simply as an out for my feelings but in the hopes that someday I may become famous, that people will look back on my recordings and themselves be inspired to seek the glory that our society has forgotten.

My name is Bill Thornley of Bree land. I am a trainee of swordsmanship and a student of the Scholar's stair Archives. Some say a scholar cannot fight and a soldier cannot write but I intend to be a master of both academics and artistry. No I will be the strongest warrior, renowned throughout time. Scholars shall repeat my findings till the end of all ages. There is naught more I can learn of fighting stance from our watchers, nor can I accomplish academic findings by simply reading books at our archives. I need to move away to uncover secrets of old, I need to move away and study a foreign fighting style, I need adventure!

I am already decided on this matter and where I shall be headed. Soon I shall make way to the Trestle up north, I intend to find help within Trestle bridge, from there I will set out into the North Downs. I have made the arrangements with the watchers and I will have three escorts under my command... I hear that the elusive and dangerous rangers have also occasionally been spotted in the northern hills, I intend to fight them, fight them and prove my own strength.

Too long have I awaited this opportunity and now it is upon me.
