Dear Mother and Father,
Yesterday we chopped trees. It is hard work. I got lots of twigs and sticks because we only have one axe. Rua says maybe next year. Today we dug out some of the silver ore in the cave and cooked it. Rua says it is worth some money. You can make pretty things from it. He showed me a silver ring he wears. It has a dwarf face on it and red sparkly eyes. Rua said the eyes are rubies. It is pretty. Inside there was writing. Rua says it is dwarfish. He says we can make me a ring when we have enough silver. I will like that.
The cave is big enough for the ponies to come inside at night. I like their smell. We hunted wild boars on the way to the new camp. We found ashes and burned wood. There were bones everywhere. Rua said it was an old goblin camp. He says there are goblins and even orcs around. We didn't stay long.
Rua taught me how to fight with my daggers when we waited for the silver ore to cook. We used sticks so we don't hurt each other. He says it is good I am small so I don't get hit easily. He showed me a way to trip the person I am fighting. I practised throwing the daggers as well. We found a bird's nest with eggs and Rua showed me how to make pancakes. We didn't have any milk so we used water. The pancakes tasted nearly like the ones we make at home. Rua is putting up the bell string in front of the cave. It makes me feel safe. Good night,
Your loving Zara
