Rangers watch the borders of the Shire at Mithrandir's and their Chieftain's request, for reasons not wholly known to them. Though the Halflings, whom they ceaselessly protect, see little of them and know nothing of their deeds, the Rangers ask for no thanks or reward whilst the Halflings live in peace and ignorence.
