After Action Report: Days 8 & 9 - Charlithel
For the first time in long days I look forward for tomorrow, feels good to be on the way back instead of the way in.
We arrived at Aughaire without further incidents. Wyndslaw spoke with the village elder and they received us with friendship. We settled in our shacks in no time and then the Captain and I had a private meeting to set our next course of actions, we both agreed that the last stage of our mission was best to be undertaken only by a few veterans. Guile and experience would serve us better than sheer numbers, so we decided we would go alone with Belagor. Secrecy was also of paramount importance so we left the encampment in the deep of the night, hoping to avoid the enemy spies, while our companions remained in the camp, simulating we all were still there.
We slowly made our way to the northern hills; there, in a secret encampment, the enemy held Charlithel captive. Belagor guided us through the stinking flatlands and the jagged rocks of the hill, the way was difficult and harsh but we managed to arrive unnoticed to the encampment. I won't detail the horrors we witnessed in that accursed place, I am thankful fate smiled on us that night. By the time of dawn we were alive, victorious and Charlithel was safe again with us, though both Caravaggio and Belagor had paid the toll with wounds of varying severity. We received an unexpected help in the moment of our direst need, one of those rangers… if it wouldn't be for him, we would have had a much harder return to Aughaire; Belagor had passed out and he was too heavy for me to carry him alone.
After much exertion we arrived at the camp, fatigued and wounded but alive… and with Charlithel. We have recovered her at last, I am sure she will have a lot to tell in the coming days but at this moment there is only one desire in our hearts, one idea in our minds… to leave this accursed land as soon as possible.
As I write this words, our companions are packing and preparing everything to leave tomorrow by first light. We will ride hard and fast, we won't stop until we reach Esteldin. Now that our eyes look back at home, our hearts are rekindled, every league will be a league closer to the safety of our own land.
