After Action Report: Day 4 - Rescue

Just when we had achieved a great victory, death stalks our steps again.

During the night we received unexpected reinforcements, young Gardella made her way back to us as did her father Ivlathdur. We left the beacon camp before sunrise and started our march through the hills to avoid prying eyes, our way was slow and difficult but we had to keep the element of surprise if we expected to have some chance of rescuing our comrades alive.

We followed the map and found their hidden camp, they never saw us coming, we fell over them like a lightning bolt and crushed their defences in a few minutes. For a brief moment our friend Colt was in serious danger but he managed to bite his way out of it, he was safe once again with us but Nienora was not on sight . The joy of victory almost turned into sorrow when an unexpected explosion devastated the captured camp, we were lucky enough to escape it with only minor bruises and scratches, but any chance of surprise was lost, now every enemy in many miles around was alerted of our presence.

We had to forfeit the search for Nienora and retreat before being surrounded in a bloody forest crawling with enemies. We made a strong point in a ruined holdfast, some miles west from the forest, we had to return for our missing companion so there was no point in going too far away.

We were readying ourselves for the night when we received another unexpected and severe blow, Cpt. Caravaggio Wyndslaw was severely wounded while patrolling the perimeter, an enemy scout managed to place two arrows on his back before falling to the Captains blade. Then chaos ensued as some of us darted on to retrieve his wounded body while enemy skirmishers peppered arrows on our position, with Wyndslaw down and myself busy carrying Gardella out of danger (the girl had a nervous breakdown), the company lost cohesion and scattered.

Ivlathdur,Wyndslaw, Gardella and myself bunkered down in a ruined farm some miles south. The Captain's health was critical and we had to stop or risk losing him.

To make things worse, Gardella wandered away in madness while we were busy tending the Captain.

Bradien arrived moments later bringing promising news… a fresh lead on Nienora, we had to seize the chance, even in our precarious situation, so Ivlathdur and Bradien marched back into the woods to seek out for her.

Only I remain with Caravaggio. We lost contact with Belagor, Colthuin, Kissare, Vyren and Linfield at the holdfast, I hope they managed to escape the enemy and with some luck, Belagor will lead them back to my position, he is a resourceful fellow. I fear for Gardella, if the enemy finds her she is as good as dead but I can't leave Wyndslaw unattended, she brought this upon herself by disobeying the Captain's orders, she was not ready enough for combat. Ivlathdur and Bradien should come back with news of Nienora in the morning. Meanwhile I am sure the enemy roams around, looking for us.

It is pointless to state the direness of our current situation.
