A watchman's Watch.

Me watch started as many anuther, cold and quiet down by the Sowth gate, I stood there, a cold wind shootin' thru' me leather jerkin. Twas dark, dawn (and the promise of sum warmth from its rays) wer long off.

I stamped me feet 'oping this would give me sum relief. Only the light of me lantern gave a slight glow, to warm me face as i held it aloft.

"'oi, who goes there?" I challenged, ... from out o the shadows Mabons grubby helmed face appeared.. "Tis only un yer fool" 'e whispered as 'e drew near.

We passed the time togethur quietly enuff, Mab 'ccasionally talkin' 'bout this an'that.Mabon took out is baccy pouch, "'ere try this un Geth", e' said, I asked if it twer roper's twist,(which ter un always taste's like sumat me hound, ole Badger would drop).

"Nay tis right gud stuff, tis stuff Rynnie dun gav' us. She bought it over ter the Guardhouse afore, tis called 'Eagles nest' I think'

I took out me pipe, lookin' all 'round case we was seen, and filled the bowl with the fine smelling herb. A mighty fine smoke it wer too. I embarasst meself coughin and spluttrin' in front of Mab. But 'e jus smiled an slapped us on the back.

I cud feel me eyes a drooppin' as dawn rose ,feelin the sunlight on me face. Sudden like I felt a shadow over un, an' there in front of me were three 'orseman! The one in the middle spoke all proper like.

"Good man of the watch, I and my companions here, bear grim tidings from the north bree fields.....
