Old Gondorian soldiers song

O victorious dead!

(commonly known as Foggy dew)

At the gates of the king in fair armour stood I.
There armed lines of marching soldiers passed me by.
Both the horn and the drum played it's dreaded tattoo,
and the battle cries rang out through foggy dew.
Right proudly they carried the banners of yore,
as they hurried through Pelennor, into war.
And Elendil did gaze, in the deepest amaze,
at his brave men marching in the foggy dew.

In the darkness of the shadow, at Dagorlad plains.
Gilded blades where brought to break the iron chains.
There they bore the fight, so that Gondor's light,
might shine again right through the foggy dew.
The dark Lord fled! O victorious dead!
But the High King fell, to the requiem bell.
In a white marble grave lie the fallen brave.
Forever will he rest 'neath foggy dew.

Through Ithilien once more, heart with grief was sore,
as I thought of those who fell in foggy dew.
