History and origin of the Dungiron family

History and origin of the Dungirion family line.

Iarvund the first was born into an unruly age, filled with general unrest, uprising and war. In SA 3255 Ar-Pharazôn, the twenty-fifth and last king of Númenor, unlawfully seized the throne. That same year Iarvund's mother Imriel saw her first born son take his first steps, in a small house, in the city of Nindamos, on the eastern shores of Númenor. Like his father Iarvedan, he was destined to be a soldier and his training began on his tenth birthday. To his father's content he grew up to be a fine swordsman. It was a proud day for Iarvund when he enrolled in the same unit as his father, the honour guard of Elendil the Fair.

During this time the tyrant King was approached by the Maia Sauron. He convinced Ar-Pharazôn that by waging war against the Valar and conquering Valinor, he could gain everlasting life! A gift reserved only for the Eldar. After nine years of preparations for war, a great armada set sail for Valinor. Ar-Pharazôn manage to land a large part of his army and led his troops to besiege the Elven city of Tirion. At this time, the Valar called upon Eru for aid. It is said that Eru broke and reshaped the world, making sure no ships of men could ever reach Valinor again. Númenor was covered by huge waves and sank beneath the sea in a great cataclysm.

Iarvund and his father was not part of the invading army, lost in Valinor along with the King, as Elendil was counted among those who wanted remain loyal to the Valar and friendly to the Elves. This group was lead by Elendils father Amadil, Lord of Andúnië. He had foreseen the disaster that was to befall Númenor. Elendil, his sons Anarion and Isildur, along with all those who was counted among the faithful, fled their sinking island home in nine ships. Iarvund the first, his parents and siblings thus escaped the downfall of Numenor.

The ships became separated during the tumultuous voyage to Middle-earth; while Isildur and Anárion landed in the southern lands near the haven of the Faithful at Pelargir, Elendil and his people arrived at the northwest near Lindon. Isildur along with his brother Anarion went on to found the southern kingdom of Gondor in S.A 3320. Construction began on the capital Osgiliath and its two defensive towers, Minas Ithil and Minas Anor. Iarvund with his family also landed at Pelargir. Separated from his unit he now went on to serve  in Isildurs personal guard. He was awarded  land in Lossarnach, close to the White mountains and the river Erui. There on the southern slopes they built a stone mansion and planted a wast orchard.

In S.A 3326 a son was born to Iarvund, and he was also named Iarvund after his father, the second one with that name. He, like his father began his soldiers training on his 10th birthday. At the age of 35 he took his fathers place as a soldier in Isildurs personal guard. At that very day Iarvund I hang his sword and shield upon the walls of his home, never again to use them. He lived for another 81 years and died in T.A 1, at an age of 187. During his later years he transformed the family estate into a lush orchard with small fields of grapevines and barley thriving in the sun. A tapestry depicting him in his guards outfit still hangs in Dungirion Hall.

Sauron reentered Mordor and re-established his power. In S.A 3429 Sauron captured Minas Ithil and burnt the White Tree. Yet Isildur escaped with his wife and sons, and a seedling of the White Tree. While Anárion held Osgiliath, Isildur and his family sailed down the Anduin, then northwest to Gil-galad in Lindon and his father Elendil in Annúminas. Elendil and Gil-galad formed the Last Alliance of Elves and Men. In 3434 the combined armies of Elves and Men crossed the Misty Mountains and marched on to the Dagorlad. There the forces of Sauron were defeated and he retreated into the Barad-dûr to withstand a siege. The siege lasted seven years but finaly Sauron was defeated. However both Elendil and Gil-galad where slain. Iarvund II fought along side his Lord at Dagorlad and through out the siege of the Black tower.
Isildur remained for a year in the South, planted the seedling of the White Tree in Minas Anor and put the realm to order. In october T.A 2, Isildur and his Guard of two hundred knights and soldiers reached the northern borders of the Gladden Fields. There they were ambushed by Orcs. Isildur was slain and never found. Iarvund II managed to survive the battle and now without liege he decided to retire as his father now was dead. Like his father he now took upon himself to run the family estate, and make sure  the family line would continue.
