- 6 - West Gate and the first Riddles
- TA 3018 - Hookworth -
We have now been set out on a goose-chase. Riddle after riddle our only clues to move forward..
So far it has brought us through the Bree fields, through farms and Blackwold ruffians. mazes and what not.
The first riddle brought us to a bowl of Red Berries on the doorstep on Dogwoods Farmhouse, north of West Gate in Bree. Under it was a new note..
The Riddle at Dogwoods Farm:
~ Somewhat misplaced, just around here.
A construction to cross, if water was near.
Go underneath and then lift your sight.
If it is dark, use a light.. ~

After being a little puzzled about this, we found it had to mean a bridge - with no water underneath it. We found the solution under the bridge at the construction site at Thornley's Farm. Here a new clue was found..
The Riddle of the Bridge:
~ I see that some of you withstood the urge,
To eat of the berries dipped in milk of spurge.
Now the next is for Blackwold Morley to find.
Give him some silver, and he might be kind.. ~

The note also had a small drawing of a bridge and a north bound arrow.
Yes... the red Berries at Dogwoods Farm were poisoned - Luckily we had no hungry hobbits with us - as Master Unge is bound to being still from his broken leg. Otherwise I am sure the berries could have been the last of the poor hobbit.
After searching northbound, we came across a ruffian at the old Greenway Fort - who called himself Morley The Fierce. A nasty looking man, and I had to fight the urge of burying my sword into his belly, to let him die a slow and painful death from his part in our Grandmasters disappearance.
But he was sure to tell us that if he did not return to his hideout safe, we would not see the Grandmaster again at all..
After a bag of silver less rich, he gave us the next lead.
It was short this time.
Morley's Riddle:
~ A merry ground, a festive place.
Where barrels are stored, inside the maze. ~
The Bree-lands very own Festival Ground of course, and as I learned from Erielle Pilin, sister of our Lady Milinea Pilin - it had a vast maze in the middle of it.

The Bree-lands very own Festival Ground of course, and as I learned from Erielle Pilin, sister of our Lady Milinea Pilin - it had a vast maze in the middle of it.
She and Milinea had played in it many times as children. It had been many years since she last was in it, but it went without much trouble, and in the middle of it we found a tent with barrels and a table. Here the next note was found on one of the Barrels.
The Riddle of the Maze:
~ A key and a box is north-east bound.
On Gazburz the leader, the key can be found.
For the box in the ruins, search high or crawl.
Sneak past the orcs, or slay them all.. ~
Just a little further up, North-East of the Maze we found the ruins.

As we now know the place of the next clue, we seek more able knights to return!
After scouting out the ruins - believed to hold the next clues - we have regrettably come to the conclusion that we are to few here in Bree at the moment. We need more arms!
So we have returned to Bree yet again, to gather more Knights.
