Nightmares

Lynn woke with a start. She had fallen asleep in the chair next to Syllea’s bed. The woman looked to see what had caused her to wake. She looked at the teen girl and knew that she was the reason. Syl was tossing and turning, tears slipping down her cheeks. Lynn thought to wake her, but the girl was suddenly still. Her tears stopped. The guard blinked in confusion, watching Syl carefully. “You’re here.” The teen whispered in her sleep. The relief in the girl’s voice eased Lynn, and she settled back into her chair.

She sat alone with nothing in sight but darkness. Kim couldn’t move, couldn’t talk, she couldn’t do anything. 

“You told me how terrible I was for leaving you and you left with no warning.”Edwin appeared right in front of her and said those words and before he disappeared he said one last thing.”Abandoned” 

“I am the favorite. They know me better, love me more,”  the younger girl said.
Syllea looked at her sister with tears in her eyes, “Papa and Father love me too.” She replied, though her voice was flooded with doubt.
Em laughs at Syl, “Even I know you don’t believe that.”

Dear Mother and Fath

Dear Me,

I awoke charging through fire.

Bounding and bellowing through the smoke and flames, calling out to my friends, but all I can hear are pained cries and foul chattering. The sound of metal slicing flesh and chopping bone plagues my ears, while the sounds of clicking and hissing drive me to near madness. I had come back hoping to be greeted with warmth and kinship, but instead, I am left with the sounds of pain, torture and doom.
