Bealtaine
("First Day of Summer")

At Bealtaine cattle are driven out to the summer pastures. Rituals are performed to protect cattle, people and crops, and to encourage growth. Special bonfires are kindled, whose flames, smoke and ashes are deemed to have protective powers.
