| Outward Appearance | Cally Lilly Goodword is a mature Hobbitess of Stock with bright, observant blues eyes and an expression that often suggests she has just remembered something worth writing down. Her hair falls in soft curls to her shoulder and still carries some of golden color of the hair of her youth She is most often seen in practical traveling clothes suitable for the road between villages, with a satchel full of letters slung over one shoulder and a notebook. or several, close at hand. Though not particularly imposing in stature even by Hobbit standards, she possesses the quiet confidence of someone accustomed to speaking with strangers and making friends wherever she goes. |

Background
Warm, curious, and endlessly interested in other people, Cally has a habit of asking questions that often lead to stories. She remembers names, family connections, old songs, and local traditions with remarkable ease. Friends describe her as kind-hearted and patient, though she can be surprisingly persistent when pursuing a tale she believes ought to be preserved.
By trade she serves as a postmistress in Buckland, carrying letters, news, and connections between communities. Over the years she has become an active contributor to the Mathom Society and an informal collector of local histories, songs, recipes, sketches, and travelers' accounts from across Middle-earth.
Among her possessions is a large purple volume known as The Crooked Book. Purchased from Bilbo Baggins many years ago, the book was already somewhat misshapen, with a crooked spine and uneven covers. Bilbo reportedly disliked it on account of its extraordinarily garish purple cover—a color so alarming that even Lobelia Sackville-Baggins was once said to have regarded it with suspicion. Cally, however, saw only a perfectly serviceable book with plenty of room left to fill.
Within its pages she preserves copies of letters, songs, sketches, family histories, travelers' tales, and accounts of ordinary folk whose lives might otherwise be forgotten. Pressed flowers, loose notes, recipes, honey stains, and the occasional fish scale can be found tucked among its crowded pages.
Though Cally has no interest in fame or scholarship for its own sake, she firmly believes that ordinary lives matter. The Crooked Book remains her ongoing effort to ensure that the stories of farmers, fishermen, craftsmen, merchants, healers, wardens, and countless others are remembered alongside those of kings and heroes.
When asked why she continues adding to the collection, she simply replies:
"Someone ought to remember them."
