Orenn looks every bit the displaced man of the Mark, with broad shoulders, flax-golden hair, and a talent for horsemanship inherited from his father (who is, much to the amusement of many, also named Orenn Orennson - there are not two, but six Orenn Orennsons stretching back to the original ancestor). He dresses entirely inappropriately for a farmer or other laborer, preferring to wear deeply colored tunics and to ornament the braids in his hair with flowers and leaves. He is rarely without an instrument of one kind or another, whether a fiddle, lute, or simple pipe, and travelers stopping to rest along the road often hear the young man singing in a rich tenor before they see him driving his cart on the customary east-west route between his family's farm and Ost Guruth. His countenance is open and easy, and he is often regarded as younger than his true age due to this fact (and the fact that he has never succeeded at growing a full beard, though not for want of trying). Though he can neither read nor write particularly well, he displays a remarkable talent for remembering and improvising melodies and songs, a skill which is amusing to some and greatly annoying to others.

Background

As the story might be told to a traveler, the 'original' Orenn made his way to Eriador from the horse-lands several generations ago, seeking a more stable life for his family than the largely undefended plains of Rohan could offer. They settled on a small farm in the Bree-lands, and Orenn and his sons made a name for themselves as horse-trainers and farriers. Many other children and a much larger farm later, the sixth Orenn follows in his father's footsteps of raising, shoeing, and training workhorses for the farmers of Breeland.

This tale, however, is almost certainly a fabrication meant to convince potential customers of the superiority of their horses, as the family bears little other resemblance to their so-called ancestors and the journey is too perilous to be worth such a risk. Though mildly deluded about his own geneology, Orenn-the-sixth is capable enough at the trade chosen for him by family heritage that anyone not familiar with the traditions of Rohan might almost believe his claim.
