Background
[LAY-o-fahn' or LEH-o-fehn]
Known in Bree and to some Shire Hobbits as the Ranger Elmshade, and called Dolennar ('Hidden Fire') by many Elves west of the Misty Mountains, Léofan has spent much time in the lands about Bree and the Shire, but is well-travelled over all Eriador, and some lands beyond, carrying out the business of the Dúnedain and the Elves of Rivendell.
Son of Belefaer, a Northern Dúnadan from the line of Arahad II, Léofan was born in the year T.A. 2965, his name being 'Shadow-veiled' in the ancient speech of the Eldar, but bearing the double-meaning 'Beloved' in the old speech of the Northern Peoples, with whom his mother Gladwen was kin.
As one of the muster of Rangers at Sarn Ford, Léofan was driven off by Black Riders on September 22 of 3018, and fled to Bree to warn Strider and his fellow Rangers of the coming of the Nazgûl. At Strider's behest, Léofan works to gather a growing company of Free Peoples, uniting them to common purposes against the spreading Darkness across Eriador and beyond.
