Outward Appearance

Havaldr is a tall but tenuous figure of a young man. He stands out between locals not only in height, but also with his pale skin and long, blonde hair which mark him as one of foreign descent. Well learned people would be inclined to take him for one of the Horse- or Northmen, but certainly not one of their warriors, for he is soft, even frail in his appearance at times.

The garments covering him are usually arranged with great care and in pristine condition, showing both the amount of attention he pays to his appearance and that he does not engage in the kind of physical labour that would see a man's clothes tattered or covered in dirt.

The many thoughts observers may have about the sight of this man can be summed up with "Why?". He does not look like the usual traveller to pass Bree, nor does he resemble any of the locals, giving the sight of him an obscure note in the surroundings of Bree.

Background

Background

A tall, well spoken fellow who is was born in Dale and is found either in Bree or travelling somewhere. He appears to own a house in the former and is known to the locals of the town as an eccentric, map drawing harpist who worked as a bookkeeper at some point. Aside from wild hobbit rumours about his now leisurely lifestyle or the nature of his travels, people may know that he lives off of coin minted in Gondor and appears to pursue trade when he is not in Bree.

Personality

Havaldr generally seems to be a very extroverted person. He often strikes up conversations with strangers and appears to be socially competent and friendly, although the way he speaks or looks might interpreted as pretentious by some. He usually displays good manners and a high degree of politeness towards strangers. In fact, many people, particularly those of a simpler background, would consider him to be too polite, even. Something that he will be inclined to disagree with, yet it would seem true as he can easily be shamed into small favours simply by making it seem like he had displayed bad manners in some way. Some may also find his habit of asking a lot of questions tedious, he loves getting more knowledge from people and is usually rather straightforward about this intention.

He tends to talk in a very "proper" and elaborate way most of the time, a habit from the years he had spent at court that he has not yet given up on, rightly so, as he might claim. As expected, however, Havaldr will usually engage in more casual ways of conversation as he becomes more accquainted with his counterpart, or as he gets more intoxicated, both will work to the same effect.

As easy as it may be to bring the man to drop his usual, formal and polite ways of engagement by becoming more familiar to him, it would prove to be very difficult to anger the man to a point where he would openly display such emotions. Instead, people that have somehow acquired his disfavour are most commonly met with a wall of politeness that has a somewhat cold tone to it.

Asking the right questions or speaking about certain subjects will quickly reveal that Havaldr is a man very sheltered from most dangers that loom in Middle Earth towards the end of the Third Age. Having spent all of his life within good distance of battlefields and without a desire to know much about such things, he knows very little about the "Enemy", so little, in fact, that he has difficulties recognising him as such in situations where it would be obvious to others. This does not seem to bother or worry him to the least.

Regardless of that, he seems to have visited an unusual amount of places and has travelled through many dangerous lands, if his own words are to be believed, always seeming to find someone to keep him safe despite his apparent inability to defend himself against anything more dangerous than the most feeble creature.

Friends
Many in Bree, yet Gwindau, Ameren and Connwear are without doubt those he is closest to.
Relatives
He has some family in Dale. ((None of his relatives are roleplayed as of now. Since the events of last summer, however, they do know where Havaldr is. Send me a message if you wish to RP as one of them.))
Rivals/Enemies
Loves
Knowledge, especially concerning history. His harp and his maps as well as good stories and books.
Hates
It is hard to find something that he genuinely hates. Those who destroy knowledge or deprive him of it he does hate, though. For some reason, he hates Dugg.
Motivation
He doesn't speak of his motivation a lot. It comes down to "happiness" if one were to pry.
Quotes
"My pleasure." "Now, ..."
