The Departure

21st March, year 3018 of the Third Age

I don't remember the last time I wrote in this old diary. But I feel as if something was telling me I have to write again.

Today we are ready to leave the Mark.

My men and I have been watching the enemy movements through the West Emnet and farther to the west. They seem to running away from us, keeping themselves at the distance, watching us, and now we're ordered to leave our land... We have been fighting against the orcish raiders, who seem to regroup near Fangorn and at the south of the Misty Mountains. We fought under the commandment of Éomer, one of our Marshals, for months but then he was summoned somewhere else. Since the last raid, also five Éored, including mine, were summoned to Edoras.

What we found there, only we, the captains, know it, and it should continue this way, even if I'm writing in my own diary. But the thing is, we are being sent far from home, like the other four Éoreds, each one sent in a different direction than the others. Something is happening, no doubt, and we must find out what it is. I'm being sent to the North, to Eriador, and my commands are simple, it's just I think it seems too easy. As was said by the captain of the Royal Guard in the meeting, we must leave immediately. But, I can't understand why we need to send an entire Éored, with its one hundred twenty man, to such a mission. It would have been better if they had let me choose my best rider to go there alone. Even I would go all alone if I had been allowed!

Well, I hope everything is going to be alright.

In other matters I'm very happy.

Alharis asked me to go with us. She's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen, and she knows how to manage a sword! I love her, over all the things of this world. I prefer to stay with her but, I must march to the North and I don't want her village to be raided by the growing threat of the orcs... I think... I'm going to let her come with us... We're many, and noone has to know that she is coming with us... She'll be fine with us. I'll protect her with my life.
