Preparations for Home

Dear Diary,

I have finished my work here at Imladris, even the most obscure scrap of music has been faithfully copied into my journal.

I have sent copies of all the farming and gardening books I have found back to the Thain. He sent a letter on return of post thanking me for my hard work, but has stopped my stipend.

That means I am now without income and far from home. This is one of the reasons I have decided to return to The Shire.

I have managed to save a fair amount of coin whilst I have been here. I would put a few silver pieces aside when the stipend arrived via the quickpost. I counted it last night and the amount added to what I already had came to nearly 3 gold pieces!

The Elves have been most generous here in Imladris, I don't think a day has gone by without at least one invitation to dinner. That is how I have managed to save so much coin.

I will be sad to leave this valley of peace, but I do feel The Shire calling me home. I have been dreaming of the farm again. The taste of mashed taters with butter and cream like a ghost on my tongue when I wake.

I have asked one of Lord Elrond's staff to inform her Lord of my decision and to pass on my heartfelt thanks for allowing me access to his home and library.

I have all my belongings packed and ready to leave. Poor Floppett is hitched behind Harmony and loaded down with all my things. Books, musical instruments, clothes and food for the journey home.

She looks like the pack animal she was when I first got her, instead of the pampered goat she has become. I think she is sulking at being treated in such a way, silly thing.

Anyway, I think this will be my last entry until I reach The Shire and home. I wouldn't want to lose you on the road.
