Chapter II: The Wounds of History

The Rangers of the company gathered more of their folk for the journey to Ost Guruth, in attempts to explore this threat further. Laegol, Elisende, and Glorsirel now joined the company, being gathered by Anarlosse. After speaking further with the Old Oak, they now understood the designs of these Hill-men, seeking opportunity in the wary state of the North and lessened population of Rangers, they pushed out in all directions, out of their holes into the homes of the free. He spoke oft in riddles and departed stating the group should seek more knowledge in the library of the Ruins of Ningliras, refusing to give them the knowledge outright. Laegol scouted ahead, and brought news to this meeting that torches had been seen upon the peak of Amon Sûl. The company set out immediately to the library, spreading out across the large ruins of Ningliras. Elisende, Anarlosse, and Glorsirel worked together to use their skills to decipher ancient preserved texts at the top of the structure. Aeirillen, Braman, and Rotello remained behind with the Old Oak, watching closely, the torches upon Weathertop.

Laegol and Cellinbor had discovered that an Orc had been slain there not more than a night before they had arrived, there was tension in the remains enemy. Watchful eyes within Ost Guruth and in Ningliras saw the night darken, and torches brighten the Weather Hills. There were many of the Hill-men, they thought, very many. Elisende through her great lore skill, uncovered that these Hill-men were 'greater' than those before them. They were Haeranedain: Dúnedain bred further with Hill-men. They were seemingly taller, faster, and stronger than Hill-men and harbored hatred for both the Dúnedain and Angmar. These Haeranedain were treated as second-class by the Arnorians, and pushed to the side in favor of the 'pure-blooded', gaining their ire. The Rangers gathered those from Ost Guruth, and made for Weathertop, to espy the movements of the torches. They found that the torches passed around Weathertop and made no attempt to take camp upon it. The air then grew cold and the company was assaulted by wights, led by three wraiths, the dead were once again in the service of the enemy. The company was outmatched, the enemy had a sorcerer among them! Aranarion, Cellinbor, and Anarlosse valiantly fended off the Wraiths, allowing for the remaining Rangers and the trio to carve a path of escape. Quickly, when the forces were thin, and the shades beaten back, the company in its whole descended the high hill upon their horses, seeing now that the Hill-men meant to trap them there, as they now clawed up the mountain paths. Glorsirel led the company in their riding, for her horsemanship was skillful, and her knowledge of the fastest routes, invaluable. The company finally rested in the Forsaken Inn where they once more found the Old Oak, who bade them ride to The Barrow Downs to seek aid against their enemy and he said in parting that they would find him in Bree afterwards.....
