Letter: to Blid & Maddoct

To my dearest Blid and my dearest Maddoct,

First, to Blid, I would like to tell you that we have received your letter. I am so relieved and happy that you have arrived in Rivendell safely, though I did not have any worries about your journey. I am so sorry that it took me much longer to reply, but I promise there was a very serious reason for it, for I did not want to have to send a letter and then immediately send another right after it.

Second, I would like to thank you for having our letters delivered. It has meant the world to me. If things all go well, and Lithiva receives her letter, I am hoping that she will journey to Bree in the coming season. I know that Leoffrith's heart would be full of joy, and mine would be too. I also wanted to thank you for the kind words you wrote to me when I was feeling so terribly down. Things have gotten much better since then, and your words were a great comfort to me.

Now, finally, the words I have to write are for both yours and Maddoct's eyes, but I will put it in only this letter because two would go to the same place.

I waited a few months before I said anything to anyone, even Leoffrith. It was a superstition that my mother had, that you could not talk about it until a woman missed her third month, and only then was it safe to tell people. Otherwise, she said, it would jinx it. The third month passed only a few days ago and I once again missed my time. Some of my robes are too tight and I've had to have a few of them let out a little bit. I also cannot stand the smell of cooking meat anymore, it makes me sick to my stomach.

This all combined can only mean, of course, that I am now carrying a child. I wish nothing more than to give you this news in person but I am sure by the time you return to Bree, I will be very soon to pop. We discussed the idea of asking Maddoct to help with the delivery, but neither of us was sure if you had practiced in midwifery when practicing healing.

There is also another reason that I wanted to write to you now, instead of waiting until you've returned to Bree. Leoffrith says that it is tradition to pick two sworn-parents for your children. He says that they are parents who watch over and protect their sworn-child if something was to happen to Leoffrith and I. I know that this is not a Dwarven custom, and you perhaps have no idea what I write about, but we would like to ask you both to be the child's sworn-parents. We did a special magic ritual where you hang your wedding ring on a string over your stomach, and the way it moves reveals what your baby would be. It said that we were having a girl.

I understand if you would not want the responsibility, but there is no one else I would rather ask aside from you two.

with all of my love, which is a lot,

Lumina
