Once upon a time, there was a man who had travelled all around the world, seen all the mountains, visited all the cities and villages, swam in every lake, crossed every river and read every book that had been written. He knew everything, there wasn't a question he couldn't answer. This made the man prideful and cocky, but also very bored. For there was no one he could speak to and there was no new knowledge he could learn.
Because of this, the man decided to make a challenge. Anyone could visit him and the man would be allowed to ask three questions, for every question they could not answer the guest would pay the man one silver piece. In turn, the guest could ask the man one question and if the wise man could not answer, he would pay them ten pieces of gold.
These news spread through the world and at first, many arrived to try their luck, but every time they left three silvers' poorer, for none of them could find a question the wisest of Men could not answer.
This carried on for years and every year there were fewer guests, until no one bothered to visit anymore. Until one fateful day, a knock came to the wise man's door and when he answered, a simple pig farmer greeted him.
The old man scoffed at the sight and asked; "What do you want, pig farmer?"
"I've come to ask you a question, sir." The pig farmer answered.
The old, wise man laughed at this, because what could a lowly pig farmer ask a man who had seen the world and read every book?
"Very well, pig farmer." The old man answered "If you are so desperate to part with your coin." The two sat down and the old man began with his questions.
"Why does the the river flow down the mountain, but never up?" He asked.
The pig farmer thought on this. "I don't know." He answered and a silver piece was placed on the table between them. The old man shook his head at this and asked another question.
"Why does the sun set in the evening and rise in the morning?" The old man asked.
The pig farmer thought on this, but again he had no idea what to answer. "I don't know." He finally said, another piece of silver added on top of the other.
The old man growled irritably, shaking his head and asking his last question. "Why do the leaves lose their green colour when winter comes around?"
"I don't know" The pig farmer answered and placed a third piece of silver with the other two. Now the old man laughed, disappointed by the lack of answers. "Ask your question then." He said.
His guest thought and finally asked "What has five legs, three horns, a long tail and eyes as bright as the morning sun?"
The wise, old man thought on this and then he thought some more. He had never heard of such a creature.
For three days and three nights, the old man pondered on this question and the pig farmer waited patiently. He looked through every book and scroll and walked far into the woods to find this beast, but with no luck. Still the farmer waited.
On the fourth day, he finally sat down with his guest, placing a pouch of ten gold pieces on the table between them.
"You win, pig farmer." The wise man said, defeated. "But you must tell me the answer. What sort of creature has five legs, three horns, a long tail and eyes as bright as the morning sun?"
The pig farmer smiled and from his pocket pulled a piece of silver and placed it on the table.
