So, I broke my leg. Joy. One more injury to add to the list. It's nothing I've not done before, but given my age, I begin to wonder just how much more this battered body of mine can take. Rowan always wanted me to stay safe by living a more sedate (and horrendously boring) life, but it seems to me that I have suffered more damage by staying still than I ever have when digging holes and running from - and towards - certain peril. Odd, that.
Vivi, my adorable little helper, saw fit to get a damned healer involved, against my wishes I might add! I've always been fine with a splint and some bandages before. Why should this time be any different? Still, I must admit that this Elias Dimheim seems to know what he's talking about. Sometimes.
I'm laid up in his infirmary at the moment, my leg trussed up and strapped to some odd device. I'd assume it an instrument of torture were it anymore than mildly uncomfortable. And terribly inconvenient. It seems designed to keep my leg straight and me from going anywhere.
On second thought, it's definitely a torture device!
Still, it's not all bad. I was permitted to bring my work with me to keep my mind occupied, even as my body atrophies and the doctor himself is.... Interesting.
He's tall, thin and pale. Did he not speak and move so smoothly, I might well have jammed a knife in his ear, having mistook him for another Wight! Saying that, he's not unpleasant to the eye, though he could do with some more time in the sun. He's also... Open. Oddly so. He seems willing to answer any question set to him, be it professional, idle or personal. And honestly. It's been a while since I conversed with a man who didn't try to hide himself behind half-truths, deflection or had to have the words pried from his lips. I find it refreshing, even as I find his dryness and inexperience with humour to be highly entertaining.
I just have to hope it remains so, for I am bound to this place for ten whole weeks! Torture indeed!
He seems to be a logical and reasonable man. Well mannered and gentle. So, he's probably going to turn out to be some manner of twisted killer. Probably with a secret love for wearing nipples as earrings. Nothing surprises me when it comes to Gondorians; their cultural repression manifests their natural rebellion in some very strange ways.
Or perhaps he is what he appears. What a novel thing that would be!
