Part 1.4: Out of Archet

I left early in the morning to return to my folks and pack. I spoke with them at length, to convince them that it was the right plan for me to go to Combe and look for work so that I could help them rebuild the house and the business. I think my mum felt safer knowing that I was not going on my own, but that Toby and Blake would come with me. My dad however wasn’t quite convinced that a girl like me should travel out of town in the company of two boy my own age. I laughed at that and assured him that I would punch them in the face if they tried anything, which made my dad laugh. I guess sometimes he forget that I have grown up with the boys, I’ve known them forever, they have never shown that kind of interest, so my dad need not worry.

I didn’t quite specify what work I would be looking for, I don’t think this is the right time. If it goes well, perhaps in time I will tell my folks that my plan is to become an adventurer, but I think for now Combe is as far as my dad’s imagination will stretch in relation to his youngest daughter not being at home.

I packed light, just a spare set of clothes and other bits and bobs. It’s hard to know what you need to bring when you don’t know when you are coming back. I reckon Combe is so close to Archet, if I think of anything I can just return and get it!

We set out after midday Toby and I, Blake would meet us along the road. It was a big moment for me rode through the gate to Combe and down the road towards the town. I was busy looking at everything, Combe seems like such a large town.
