Meeting at Weathertop

She set about collecting some wood for a small camp fire, having found an area to make it that would be sheilded from the edges of the mountaintop. Making ready a carcass of one of the Craban she had killed, she set it within the fire to cook. After a few moments she heard Amlarad's footsteps approaching, a huge feeling of emotion welled up inside her and she fought hard to contain it. Keeping her focus on the fire she barely looked up as he acknowledged her, instead she turned the meat by the fire so as not to let it burn. How she wanted to rise up and great him, hug and kiss him, it had been such a long time and a long trek since last they met.

Much has changed though and she had learnt to keep such emotions in check. Instead she appeared as much as he did with a slight grim look and tired eyes that were the only sign of her ordeal. It took her some time to gather the words to tell him of her time in Angmar, she wanted to be sure of being able to talk without any show of her feelings coming through. Offering him the cooked bird she eventually spoke and recalled the beginnings of her journey, of how it had taken many days to catch up with the rest of the group and that her stalling had caused a member of the group to be injured during a nights watch. The grief showed in her eyes, she expected him to say something different to what he did about her mistake but he only asked if it had perhaps been some fate that had happened, something to learn from.

The sky began to darken and they watched the stars together, she huddled within his cloak, hardly wanting to speak so as not to spoil the moment. Although they sat a little apart she could feel his presence there like a constant rock and drew strength from it, she may have changed herself but she still felt comforted by him and some things such as love do not change so easily. Dawn came all too quickly that night and she knew in her heart that she must confront him again, it was as she intended to do, for now she had to make a choice. Continue in wishing after him and following him to the bitter end, and hope he would allow his feelings for her to come about or to make a break of it and carry on her destiny alone.

He rose and strode to the western side of weathertop, beckoning her to follow him, together they looked out to the star that's likeness they held pinned to their cloaks. For a time they stood in silence as the dawn approached in a rush of light. She gathered the courage to speak to him and asked the question, would he accept her feelings for him and allow her to stay by his side so they could share this burden of duty together. No sooner had she said the words than she saw a change stir within him, a troubling look as he stooped further into his cloak, as if trying to withdraw from all around him. To her dismay he spoke about his lost of love for the star he had carried so proudly for so long and how a change had occurred that left him wondering where his destiny now lie. The words were too much for her to bear, how could he; the one she had built her world around and admired so much, lose faith in their duty? The words he spoke whirled around her head, followed by the why had she had to leave at such a time? Had she been with him this last month perhaps it would of been different? Agonised she spoke out in anger and told him she would not see of him until he had given up this folly and returned to his former self.

Full of pain she made her way alone down the mountain, biting back the bitter tears in her eyes. That something could of stirred him to even contemplate what he had said to her spoke great depths. In that moment her spirit was broken, she sought out Candaith and sat quietly at his camp to try and make sense of what had happened and how she would now continue her duties alone.
