Investigation: Following the tracks of the Stone Quarter Bandits

Watcher:                                  Constable Penham Fletwood

Subject of the report:         Stone Quarter Bandits

While I was on patrol recently, I happened upon a very curious man who had not only found one of the hideouts of the Stone Quarter Bandits in Bree, but also knew of the current whereabouts of the one bandit that escaped my grasp the last time. As he explained, the man was at the Forsaken Inn and still recovering from the injuries sustained in fighting me, using a cane and being greatly weakened. But more interestingly, he was apparently talking and supposedly not associating with his former companions anymore. The man I spoke to even said that they are now planning to rob the Bree Vault, another piece of information he had gotten from the bandit.

Of course, I made my way to aforementioned inn at haste, taking the inquisitor with me in the hopes of getting some more answers out of the injured bandit. After arriving there within little more than half a day, having travelled at a much faster speed than most, we found out that the bandit had already left the inn only ten hours before we arrived. One of the patrons and locals there was able to point out the room where he had been staying, where we found further evidence of his presence and a hurried departure. After having a look at all they had left behind, I asked the innkeep for information on the man, which he reclutantly gave up to me after using some deception about who I was and what I wanted from the man.

From this I got two pieces of critical information:

1. The bandit fled further east, apparently to wait until "the heat dies down." (sic!)

2. Before doing so he sent a letter adressed to someone in Bree.

This suggests that the initial claim of the bandit to have sworn off his ways and associates was nothing but a mere deception, intended to keep the man who first spoke to him from bringing him back to Bree and to give him time to flee. It is most apparent that this deception had fulfilled it's intended purpose and gave the man enough time to get further outside of our reach, albeit at a great risk, as locals had told me.

The fact that a letter had been sent to Bree also suggests, that the other bandits are back in town. Considering their recent lack of activity, this fact should cause great suspicion, although the story of them planning to rob the vault may just be another deception. It is clear however that they are up to something and I will do my best to investigate this matter further.
