Captain's Quick Report: Annual Brandywine Salmon Run
Ah, Master Reader. Keep this relatively quiet if you may, for while the dear hobbits of the Shire are quite welcoming often no matter the circumstances, and rarely to the contrary otherwise, they do cherish, I suspect, the keeping to their own traditions and familiar faces of halfing-folk at some of their events, and might be frightened if too many tall folk begin to show up at their more private gatherings put on by hobbits, for hobbits! With luck however, it seemed this fishing event particularly was not one of such occasions, so let me share with you this Quick Report on the happenings of today by the Brandywine!
Today was the annual salmon run along the Brandywine river for the Shire hobbits, hosted by the renowned Shire Angling Club. And while the articles in the Bramblebury Gazette did not mention any particular preferences to the audience they might prefer more comfort in seeing turn out, one can never be too sure as a member of the Tall Folk, such as I am. Nevertheless! For the brevity's sake of this Quick Report, I shall gladly write that the dear hobbits today at the salmon run and fishing spot here along the Brandywine were most welcoming and lacked anything of discomfort or wariness at my presence, at least for the most part that I could see! It was a most joyous occasion throughout, with, might I say, many fine prizes for several winners in two distinct categories; one for a 'Juniors' group, which happened to be led by Master Silon, and then another 'Salmon' group, to whom was composed of particularly experienced anglers from all over the Shire-bounds, and including a lone Master Dwarf too!
There was also many periods of break with musical notes played by several individuals and bands, and once the fishing itself was done, there was a so-called 'after party'! And let me tell you, the halfing-folk mightily know how to cook a fine meal right after fresh fish have been caught. A Missus Tibba was most grand in offering me a dish with fried dace and mushrooms, it was simply superb to anything our fishermen back in Bree-town have ever managed on my table! Both Missus Rubellita and Master Silon, along with the local sheriff on duty, Missus Nimelia, were steadfast against the threat of hostile critters who dared to roam too close to some of the younger, and inexperienced members of the audience. There was also a tribute by one of the musicians towards the well-known Missus Lina, through a song orchestrated by, what I've been told, her mortal enemy, the bagpipes. Though this took place earlier on back near the Brockenborings, and before we had left on the walk to reach the Brandywine banks. A Lady Elf by the name of Everlin also won first place as part of the Junior's group! What a cheer went up from the crowd then!
But dear me, I'm afraid I might be writing beyond the length that this short report is supposed to entail, the full details of this event are to be made available later in a more complete submission to the Archives. Regardless, there were many fine Hobbits of reputation here today, and I'll end with a note that Missus Acorne was also present here, and her presence was a helpful reminder about the upcoming OAKS concert in Oldfurlong this coming monday, where the Travelling Bilberries are to be performing! And rest assured, this event in particular is well-advertised as being welcome and open to all races and Free Peoples who happen to be travelling close to the village of Oldfurlong then.
A warm congratulations on behalf of the Bree Captain's Guild to the Shire Angling Club, and Missus Penina Pondhopper, whom played the role of main host and organizer (and counter of the fishes) for today. It was a most outstanding event for this Bree Captain to witness, and no doubt future fishing events they hold will be well worth attending in the future, Master Reader. Especially if you are a hobbit!

P.S.
I was able to manage a number of drawings and sketches, attempting to protect them from the few cases of downpour and rain that occurred was a difficult feat, but I believe most of these ones I will submit with this early quick report should arrive safely into the hands of the Grey Repository Archives for your viewing, Master Reader.
