The past and the present (chpt 8)

Raising her hands to the sky she called upon the might of the dark one, the master of shadows, He who imbue her soul and allow her to use his gifts. The roar of thunder above, a reply that He had heard her words and as she lowered her hands lightning struck the enemies around her, sending them to their deaths in screams of agony and the smell of burning flesh. Stepping over the fallen she fixed her gaze upon her cousin, had this been another time they'd rule the world side by side. But his treason had to be paid for and as she thrust the slim blade through the throat of one of his warriors she called out a challenge. Time seemed to slow to a halt as he cousin accepted by leaping at her with his great sword swung in an great arc down towards her, hoping to cleave her in twain. But she was gracious and swift, stepping to the side and engaging him in the noble art of swordplay. He seemed surprised that she had learnt to fight, thinking of her still as a weak young woman spending her time learning secrets from ancient texts. As both sides tore each other to shreds and their duel came to be fought on top of the fallen she saw her chance, her cousin stumbled and with a great cry of wrath she plunged her sword through the chain mail covering his armpit. But something was wrong, the sounds around her seemed to fade and and she felt an odd taste in her mouth. She coughed, something warm begun to run down the side of her lips, this could not be.

"You and I are bound by the same fate...cousin" his voice was nothing more then an evil hiss. "Come now, embrace me in the eternal darkness..."

She fell to her knees, sword and staff falling into the blood drenched ground beneath her. A warm feeling embraced her and for a moment she felt as if everything else did not matter anymore. With tears in her eyes and a feeling of finally be able to rest she looked up at he cousin towering above her.

"Let it be done...let me sleep...let me forget all the troubles of the world..." her voice was weak and as she lowered her eyes her cousin raised his blade...

With a scream she woke up, clutching around her throat in panic, the feeling of fear holding on to her body. A feeling she had not felt in what could have been an age of the world, staggering out of the tent and into the dark night she looked up at the sky and took several deep breaths. A dream, nothing but a dream, but it felt more real then anything she had been through of late. Years had passed since she spent time in the lands of the Horse Lords, years since she had done what others would call a favor. A favor for the Bear of Dor-Halas did not come without its cost, it had took her weeks but she had done what he asked. Calming down she sat down on the cold ground and she could hear her most trusted running towards her. When they got close enough she raised a hand to show that they were not needed.

"My cousin is dead...he was killed by the Bear himself" not knowing if she spoke the words to calm herself down further or to simply make certain that her cousin truly was dead. Several hours still had to pass before sunrise, at first light they'd continue her journey. She got to her feet and cursed her cousins name before entering her tent. With the dream still in her mind as she lay down she thought of her son, her precious son. If all went well her plans would unfold soon, very soon...
