Adventures of Chaney Oakleaf Book2 Part2...

Encounters and apologies Part2

The Inn would eventually erupt into its usual clamber and noise as more folk than usual were in that evening. Chaney would sit at her usual spot, the chair next to the great fire hearth at the far side of the main room.

She took out her journal, ink pot, and quill and began to write about events which had taken place. As she wrote about her apology to Taala she felt a single tear slip from her eye and run down her cheek, round onto her chin, and eventually falling onto the ink, causing it to blot.

With a slight shake of her head she recomposed herself and looked up surveying the room has she so often did with the same cold, steely glare. Upon finishing her account in her diary she noticed Fiontann walk over and sit in his usual spot, a chair behind the counter.

She offered a look and faint smile, he too would return a smile himself, and perhaps a satisfaction in knowing that she took to wearing her hood a little less these days.

As the evening drew on Chaney would notice two women sat rattling away about men, and how ‘no good’ they were. One of these was the woman she had encountered before in the Alley, and the other evening sat with the elf, Clarrah.

Fiontann had decided he was going to muscle in on their conversation, however, the other lady would have none of this. She did not seem over too impressed with him.

At length Chaney felt it was high tide she left for the night. Bertnar had been left for some time now, and she felt an increasing urge to go be with him.

She made her way around the far side of the Inn, making note that Brammy had already left for the evening. She did not, however, notice that Taala was still there.

As she left the Inn for the evening she threw one more look out to the patrons, hoping perhaps to catch Fiontann’s gaze. She did not and thus left without a smile upon her face.

Outside she had felt a presence behind her, someone had followed her out. She swiftly swung round to find Taala stood behind her. The women looked like they were about to speak again, however, a rather gruff looking southern man had followed Taala out and was arguing with her about something.

This continued between them upon the raised area outside the Inn. The man was getting threatening towards Taala. For some reason, instinct maybe, or another reason, Chaney stepped between them, blades drawn and had fiercely warned the man to leave.

She would remain like a cat poised in readiness to strike at its prey. The Bree Guard had noticed the altercation aswell and had already started to come over investigating.

Luckily Ralyn, another ‘Dawner’ had intervened aswell. This would give Chaney the opportunity she required to slip away unseen from the guards.

She did not want to break a promise she had made to Fiontann weeks earlier. She was satisfied in the fact that Taala would be safe with Ralyn there, she would not get into trouble with the guard, and her promise to Fiontann was upheld.
