Letter exchange between Sigalís and Nagsár of the Conclave
found in Dale
Revered divine Nagsár,
you have send me out to explore Middle-Earth, which I did reliably and with all my power.
My detailed reports have reached you and the divine Conclave and there is hardly more to add to them.
But allow me to mention the barbarians of Middle-Earth.
My path led me far about and I conclude that there are many able individuals among them.
Certainly, they cannot compare to us Elves, as they are a whole other people, but grant me permission to engage them for further study.
Valued Sigalís,
we know to appreciate your sharp eyes and your perception.
Exactly those do we require against the people of Middle-Earth and so continue your journey and explore, but waste no further splinter of the eternity with the barbarians, except you bring forth the knowledge of how to defeat them even easier.
Hereby do we send you my written blessings.
Revered divine Nagsár of the Conclave,
enclosed are my newest insights on lands and fortresses.
Allow me to note that I have come closer to the realization that barbarians are able to use their mind and not only to till the fields or to wage war.
I discovered immense libraries, a true book-hoard!
It may seem hard to imagine but they try themselves in philosophy, in poesy and singing.
I think it is a race that is underestimated by us.
We should try to get to know them better and then pull them on our side. We would save time and lives.
Valued Sigalís,
about Middle-Earth everything has been said: We will be dominant in it.
Above all that is within.
The pacts with the barbarians serve alone strategical purposes and are not to be for long.
For this people, they ever stood on the same place as the other beasts and creatures.
They may smell less and their sight may be more tolerable than that of an Orc, but they will never rise from the serfdom, in which we hold them rightly.
There is no proof that they have something comparable to a spirit.
They may act like sentient beings, but alike to Orcs and the Dwarves, it means not that they have one.
The Conclave is united on this; that we should no longer interact with the barbarians than they are of use.
Now hurry and serve the Conclave so that our blessing may be yours.
Revered divine Nagsár of the Conclave,
again my reports reach you. Forgive that it has taken longer this time, but I traveled for many weeks.
Concerning the barbarians: You are wrong.
It is not about whether they have a spirit or not. It is of no importance.
I met and studied closely several of them until they trusted me. I lived for a time among them and concluded that their ways of thinking can be by far more comprehensive than believed.
This does not meet all barbarians, but the smartest of them can compare to our intellect. We should remember this.
They are very focused on their families, they act mostly driven by their feelings and less with their clear minds, which rose up the suspicion that they are dumb.
They are not.
Please let me inquire more about them.
Sigalís,
Your words irritated and angered me.
The Conclave demands your immediate return to the land of our people, so that we can speak about your pretension and decide what punishment will meet you.
You will halt your travel and turn back.
You are also obeyed from nearing barbarians.
Revered divine Nagsár of the Conclave,
forgive me, but I will not come back to your tower.
I find it not in me to let myself be punished what is in my eyes no offense. I see myself as explorer, traveling about Middle-Earth like Viraïgon who draws and expresses his thoughts.
I will not be blamed that my focuses lie on the barbarians.
Sigalís,
the Conclave gives you the chance, the very last chance, to return to us and to throw yourself before us on the ground and ask for forgiveness.
All your services, all what you gained will fall to dust if you do not obey. Viraïgon will wipe you out of the chronicles, you will never have existed and so you cannot be.
Shall this be your fate?
Revered divine Nagsár,
so wipe me out.
From this splinter of the eternity on you possess no longer a name.
You have never been and you never are.
Should our warriors find you, they will treat you as the barbarians and slay you.
Hereby we curse you, nameless!
May you die miserably from a disease that have brought you your barbarians and may your immortality be misspent.
