Report - Warhorse Inn Fire Investigation

Gaildrin pondered over the parchment, searching his thoughts for the words to describe the his resent experience. Struggling to remember all he could, he put the quill to the paper, and began writing.

It was late in the evening when I approached the Prancing Pony inn, eager to begin my first assignment for the Order. As I walked through the door of the tavern, I realized that the amount of patrons seemed far greater than usual, and there is usually quite a few. As I stumbled past the drunkards, and waitresses, and other merry folk, I soon spotted Rannie the woman who I had met a few nights prior, and the contact who I was supposed to meet. I then approached, and re-introduced myself to her. We then decided it would be best to continue our conversation in a side room of the inn, to avoid any unfriendly ears.

She then informed me that she had over-heard two men discussing their involvement at an inn that had recently been burned down. The men described it as being "roasted like a pig". At the conclusion of their conversation, Rannie overheard them saying they would meet again just off the road, near Midgewater Marsh. Rannie then said she would lead me to the location they had specified.

After riding for awhile, away from Bree, we tethered the horses, and began to look for the men who would be meeting. It had not been long until we found one of the men sitting by a fire, obviously waiting for his companion. Surprised to see us, rather than his friend, he lept to his feet, and attacked me. I was able to cripple him, with a quick slash to his leg, and disarm him of his axe. I then began interogating the man, and learned his name was Earm. He was very strong-willed, for he did not give up any more information at first, but after I had lured him out, he spoke of a great "Spear" describing it as "having many points to pierce with". He also spoke of a "Prince", who I assume is his master, and the man who orchestrated the burning of the Warhorse Inn. After this, he lunged at Rannie, and grabbed one of her daggers. Attempting to stop him from harming Rannie, or himself, I tried to tackle him, but to late. By the time I had him on the ground, he had already slit his own throat. I then proceeded to search his body to find anything of use, but finding only a branding, which I took a sketch of (this branding seemed to be highly interesting to lady Alkawen, yet I do not know what it means). After the encounter, we had tossed Earm's body into the marsh, having no further need of it. I then proceeded to bid farewell to Rannie, and rode back to the Covenant to report my findings to my superiors.

Gaildrin, feeling satisfied with what he had wrote, rolled up the paper, and proceeded to place it on a bookshelf, where many other reports of a similar nature were being kept.
