On a Calm Day, A Restless Ride

Theofola looked at the sky and grimaced at the bright sun. It was a warm and calm spring day in the town of Bree. She pulled the bridle of her long time friend Dawnbreeze towards the main street of the town. She felt that her legs will no longer carry her up the slope which goes to the Inn of the Prancing Pony. So she mounted the mare, with a rather agile movement expected for her old age and aching body. She gestured for the horse to move forward but Duskbreeze rather neighed nervously.

Theofola grumbled and scolded the horse with some words which are not quite nice to write in this story. She had to be quick and reach at the inn soon for she had an appointment with that queer surgeon. She sighed nervously. Duskwind did not listen to her orders but rather aimed for the pile of hay which lay idly on the side of the street. Theofola went angry at this and kicked the sides of the poor old mare.

All of a sudden, the mare got fierce and neighed on a high pitch and her legs kicked the air. Theofola held the bridle tighter and leaned on the horse closer. Thus the mare got even more crazy and began to run in circles around the town square. Theofola screamed atthe mare and all those around her watched the scene and braced themselves from the fury of the crazed mare.

Duskwind took Theofola around the Inn. Some workers and patrons looked out from the windows upon hearing the neighing and screaming. They saw the old mare ran around with an angry old woman on her back.

After a few loud rides around the inn, the crazed mare was forced to stop for Eofeole held its tail with his strong grip. Yet Theofola stopped neither her swearing or scolding until she realized that it was Eofeole who saved her life.

"Oh my dear son Eofeole, you do not put shame on your father, my dearest son!" she said.
