Guitly Conscious

When dawn had come the men and woman of The Mead Company had risen and began their search for the Beorning Mead which they had come to the Misty Mountains in search of. Through cold snow the marched and whilst the morning was still young they had found some wooden wreckage held up in the snow near a frozen lake. They began to dig with their bare hands but they found naught but a corpse. It was then when they had decided to call a vote, to go on in search of their mead or turn back. At that point many of the company were beginning to have their doubts that they shall never find the mead and that their journey was in vain and for naught, but it was decided that they shall go on. Upon this day they chose a treacherous path, one that climbed a mountain side and upon that mountain lived giants. Though this did not sway their course. They climbed the path, on their left was a steep slope from which falling would mean death, to their right was the cold rock of the mountain and so they climbed.

Soon the very ground began to rumble and the large thumps could be heard from the top of their path. Then a giant came down with huge lumbering steps, he noticed the company and sought to attack them. They fled swiftly but one remained. Soon the giant had lost them and climbed back to the top of the path. Redwick had swiftly noticed that one companion was missing, for the missing companion was Therwen and he ran up the slope to find her. There she sat near the edge of the a cliff and she was doubtful. Redwick had began to raise her and Fridbjorn came to aid. Together they brought her down to level platform of the slope where the rest of the company awaited. They set he down and Fridbjorn looked to Redwick with warning, warning of his words that he had said earlier that day: "stay by her side, Red." he said, but it was often when he had parted from her. But Therwen was injured from their previous encounter with a fierce worm which the company slew with great labour and hurt. Then the company held council and they decided that it would be folly to climbe the Giants' mountain with a large group and the Hofding Tyrgrim said that Alfknutr should take only three and climbe to the top to see what they may find. He chose Vallen and Tamruben.

Redwick stood there and peered to Alfknutr upon hearing this decision. His gaze then fell to Therwen and the three began to climbe the slope. Redwick called to Threland and asked him to care for Therwen in his stead, for he meant to go with Alfknutr. Such was his friendship with the Alfknutr, Elf-Knot. He would not allow his  friend to walk such a dangerous path without him at his side. The others tried to stay Redwick but soon another lumbering giant came down the path and it came upon the company. Redwick used it as an opportunity for escape, for giants have dull witts and so it was easy for him to make his way around the huge figure and run up the slope. But it was a bitter decision, for he had abandoned the rest of the company to the giant's mercy, especially Therwen who he loved and soon guilt would catch him. But now he ran and ran to find his beloved Knot and he found him. Not entirely happy was he to see that Redwick had come against the decision but he had given him a smile.

And so Tamruben, Vallen, Redwick and Alfknutr made their way over the mountain, out witting the giants and every corner which they could. Soon they made their way to the other side and swiftly they ran down the paths and soon found themselves hidden behind a rock, for giants still roamed the lower slopes. Alfknutr had sent Tamruben to find the rest of the companions and aid them over. And so they three waited for his return. Little they spoke and Redwick's heart was throbbing within his chest as he began to wonder what became of Therwen. But he was soon to find out. The three went beyond the rock and found an old camp site within the snow. So there they waited and it was not long when Tamruben returned with the rest of the companions and Redwick firstly sought for Therwen. She came born upon a shield held by Arukhor and Torgrun, she made no movement and Redwick was devastated. He knew not what to do and he knew not how he could ever right what he had done that day. With the heavy burden of guilt he aided them to set her down and he brought to unconscious body furs so that she may sleep with warmth. That night he slept not for he blames himself for what had become of Therwen, but thankfully she yet lived. Two nights now had Redwick spent by her side with no sleep for he was worried and his body trembled when he thought the worst had come to pass and he now feared that he has lost her love.
