The Farmer and The Lemon Chapter 3 (AU story/ not current stoyline)

The days wore on and the seasons passed. One winter, the farmer lay in his bed, weak in old age under a pile of blankets and furs. The elf sat at his bedside, somehow knowing these were his sworn brothers last moments in life. The farmer turned his head to smile tiredly at the elf. "Oi, Lemon..... You r'member wha' AH tuld ya? Bout them two stars so close t'gether, like they be hold'n 'ands?" The elf remembered all too well. The souls of good men were said to go to the heavens and become stars. Threland had believed those two particular stars to be his deceased wife and child. "Aye. I do. I remember." The kindly farmer drew his last few breaths as he spoke, giving the elf's hand a light squeeze. "Promise me yer gunna r'member ta look up there now'n then? Ta see me when Oi meet up with me wife 'n kid?" The ellon choked on his response, the grief was so great. "Aye. I will look to the evening skies for you. Beside the stars holding hands." The farmer smiled, pleased at that response as he lay his head back fully against the pillow. "Tis been a grand roide Lemon, but it's toime Oi rest now." The farmers grip on the elf's hand gave one last squeeze, then waned into nothing. With that, he knew his brothers Fea had left his body. The elf grieved openly into the empty room for many hours that night and did not emerge from the farmers home until the next day. For the entirety of a week, Lamaenon stood outside the Prancing Pony on the edge of the fountain, staring skyward. The night a third star appeared in the sky next to the two stars so close as though holding hands, Lamaenon disappeared without a trace. Friends searched high and low, all the way to Rivendell but no trace or word of the elf was ever found. No one knows what happened to Lamaenon after Threland's death. However, there is now a star that shines brightly above the three stars holding hands, as if watching over them. Many recall this star to have not always been there. Such was the unyielding friendship between man and elf, that it is thought Lamaenon followed his brother to the heavens to remain forever joking by his side. Legend is told, should you see one shooting star chasing another... It is because Lamaenon has stolen Threland's plumed hat in jest, and the laughing farmer gives chase to get it back. Just as Lamaenon and Threland had done in life, they did also in death, as the best of friends. ~The End
