i met my faithful companion benedict in the lone lands. i was traveling to ost guruth at the time on foot. it was a stormy night and orcs were about. i had to stop to make camp near the base of weathertop , i found a nice little spot behind a large rock. it was out of the wind and dry enough to make a fire. after a while i could hear the clanking of metal on metal on the paths above me, so i went to investigate. aways up the trail i found the remains of a dwarven caravan, probably gem traders or smiths of some sort. i searched through the charred remains of their wagons for surviors... i found none. what ever orcs had done this were long gone, so i decieded to make my way back to my campsite... but then i heard a small bahh sound eminating from the remnants of a barrel. i looked inside the barrel and to my surprise i found a small dusky nimble footed goat inside , he was only a kid. i realized that the dwarve's wagons were pulled by these goats and this one was still to young to pull a cart even. so i picked up the sopping wet little goat and brought him back to my camp. he slept curled up next to me all night. by moring the storm had passed and i decieded to take a better look at the young goat. he was well fed and didn't appear to have any injuries. when he awoke he stiffed me and chewed on the brim of my hat. so i packed up and we made our way to ost guruth . the young goat just walked beside me the whole trip . he had a noble strut in his walk and even he was a young goat he had a rather distenguished look to him. he even had a little beard. a noble creature deserves a noble name i thought, so i dubbed him benedict the companion of the wandering sage. and two years later , i was able to ride him. benedict travels with the wandering sage in all his adventures and lives well and happy.
