Journey's End

How do we go back to the place we knew before? Bourne upon its icy waters, completely at mercy to the powers that be, the river took me from peril and delivered me to my salvation. The Elves, once aloof and disparaging in my eyes, took me in and nursed me back to health. I owe those that took me in so much… After recovering from my injuries and my brush with revelation and death, under the watchful, benevolent presence of the elves, my thoughts soon turned to home; The rolling green meadows and forests of Bree-Land. My journey seems to have reached a conclusion. I sit now in the dark watches of the night, two moons since my return home, at journey’s end; after the celebrations, visiting old friends and family, loved ones… After the journey, we are never the same again. The person we left behind, a stranger and the places we knew, now too small, too confined to hold us… I have chosen a quieter life, working as a farmhand and labourer in the Northern Bree fields and perhaps my days as a warrior are over. The brotherhood, now but a fleeting whisper, believe me to be dead and it must remain that way. I can not put those I hold dear at risk any longer. It is at these times though that a nagging feeling pervades my thoughts, a calling to seek a greater path, to finish what was begun…
