Entry Eight: The Harder They Fall
The room lay in silence, as the Company would contemplate what had happened. One would blankly stare into the fireplace, watching as the flames danced. It was time to question Fiontann once again and ask how it happened. Brammy was snatched out of nowhere by that of Warg Riders as Fiontann and Lucifen would attempt to drag the Tool Box back. A man’s life at the cost of some gold... Though one does not blame Fiontann for not taking heed to his advice. The Company had grown reckless, most doing such as they pleased rather than follow the order of command. Fiontann had grown tired of this, wanting to return home quickly... Though now we pay the price...
Rogue would return with the Wolf that follows him. Its name one believes is Fang, if memory serves him well. They could find nothing within the blizzard, which one suspected. Rogue would appear that of a “great” ranger, though one has his doubts in all those who share the bloodline. As they would he no doubt. As the others would think and plan, one took matters into his own hands. Growing reckless, he ventured off into the blizzard alone. The bitter cold would remain as unforgiven as the night passed, as one wandered through it. One followed that of the tracks, which had been dragged into the Dwarven encampment. He presumed these where that of the Tool Box being dragged.
As one reached the origin of these tracks, he ventured left only to find that of fresh blood splattered upon the snow. A faint trail would lead South. As one followed, the appearance of more prominent tracks would appear alongside the small matter of blood. Warg tracks... They led right past the Dwarven encampment, through the trees and into... The Giant Halls...
In the past, one had searched to see if the myth stood true. If those who stood as tall as trees, truly lived amongst the vast snowy plains. Though he had no time to falter and returned to the camp, informing Fiontann of one’s discovery. Fiontann would choose to listen this time, though would send Rogue to scout alongside one. Though one disapproved such an act, he followed Fiontann’s command in hope the others would follow suit. The Company followed and we finally reached that where Giants are believed to roam... or do roam...
The snow would shake vigorously beneath our feet, the vibrations getting harder and more vibrant. All of a sudden, Teleyn would lose her balance and fall. One tried to grab her, but failed. Without hesitation, he slid down the Cliffside to make sure Teleyn was safe. Fiontann would rush down also, though Teleyn would appear unconscious. The thuds would continue to grow more aggressive and as one turned, the myths where proven fact. A Giant would stand before us, scratching its rear and eyeing the Company for its meal.
Without hesitation, those upon the cliff would begin to fire arrows at the Giant. One after the other, the arrows would pierce the Giant though he would brush them off. It would be Rogue, who would bring the Giant down to one knee after hitting it in its Achilles Heel. This made opportunity for one to ascend the beast, clawing and scraping up its leg. The Giant would anger at such folley, lashing out at the others and even try to crush Fiontann beneath its feet. It would however lunge forward, grabbing Taala within its huge hand. This caused one to slip, falling down and tearing his bicep upon a mammoth tusk that fashioned its belt.
One was able to hold on for dear life, as the others pressed on. As they fired there bows and Fiontann distracted it from below, Taala managed to break herself free from its grasp as one resumed to scale the beast. It would continue to suffer injury as one reached its broad shoulder. Trying to keep his balance a moment, one watched as the Giant grew dazed after the Company’s attack. In what one can say was a feat of stupidity and luck, he leapt off the Giant to the front of its face. With all the power left within him, one drove his sword deep within the Giant’s temple.
One hung for a moment as the Giant’s eyes rolled to the back of its head. It would begin to crash down, hard and fast. One would leap from the Giant’s head, rolling a fair distance away as the Giant’s lifeless corpse cause a tremendous tremor as it hit the ground. One would but stagger to his feet, rushing back to check on Teleyn. Taala was trying to tend to her, as Fiontann would check on the others. Rogue appeared to be hurt also, though one’s concern was fully on Teleyn. Taala would look upon one and inform him of his arm. He had forgotten about it for the brief moment, though would lightly tend to it quickly.
Fiontann suggested we move quickly, as the ground would begin to shake once more. We had fell as hard as the Giant, another would surely see us burn. Teleyn could not walk, so one would pick her up and run. We rushed further south and up a short hill to our left, hidden amongst the trees. Fire was already lit, but one did not falter and placed Teleyn down so he could tend further to her wound. A woman approached, wrapped in a thick cloak. Fiontann seemed to recognize her, which proved a blessing. She was a member of the Warband of Imladris, Faelyne was her name.
She offered to hunt us some food, as we tended our wounded. One would give Teleyn that of his vial of liquefied athelas, a gift given to him from the Elves. Teleyn was most grateful, keeping close to one for warmth. One had not felt such comfort in sometime... Though he would not turn that of Teleyn, a girl who looked up to him away. Taala would ask how one’s arm was, which panicked Teleyn at first. The wound needed stitching, which one could have done himself with proper equipment. Taala offered to do it for one, but Teleyn did also. One would smile, allowing Teleyn to play her part in this quest. She did a fine job, she explained that she had been taught by Nimeway. The Dawn’s former healer had trained her well...
Fiontann would finish preparing the meat that was hunted, as we all were exhausted. We sat round the fire eating our fill. Though this would appear to be the first time the Company was united... It was not...
Brammy remained missing... We shall find him... One promises that...
