"O! Will you be staying, or will you be flying?
Your horses are straying! The daylight is dying!
To fly would be folly, to stay would be jolly
And listen and hark till the end of the dark to our tune
The house of Elrond is a perfect house, whether you like food or sleep or story-telling or singing, or just sitting and thinking best, or a pleasant mixture of them all. Merely to be there is a cure for weariness, fear, and sadness.
"Sing all ye joyful, now sing all together!
The wind's in the tree-top, the wind's in the heather;
The stars are in blossom, the moon is in flower,
And bright are the windows of Night in her tower.
Dance all ye joyful, now dance all together!
Soft is the grass, and let foot be like feather!
The river is silver, the shadows are fleeting;
Merry are our times, and merry is our meeting.
Sing we now softly, and dreams let us weave them!
Wind them in slumber and there let us leave them!
The guests sleep. Now soft be their pillow!
Lullaby! Lullaby! Alder and Willow!
Sigh no more Pine, till the wind of the morn!
Fall Moon! Dark be the land!
Hush! Hush! Oak, Ash and Thorn!
Hushed be all water, till dawn is at hand!"
"Fanuilos heryn aglar Rîn athar annún-aearath,
Calad ammen i reniar Mi aladhremmin ennorath!
A Elbereth Gilthoniel I chîn a thûl lin míriel,
Fanuilos le linnathon Ne ndor haer thar i aearon.
A elin na gaim eglerib Ned în ben-anor trerennin,
Si silivrin ne pherth waewib Cenim lyth thílyn thuiennin.
A Elbereth Gilthoniel Men echenim sí derthiel
Ne chaered hen nu aladhath Ngilith or annún-aearath."
This is a role play event inspired by the times of mirth and joy the Elves had as we read in Many Meetings from The Lord of the Rings and in The Cottage of Lost Play from The History of Middle-earth. Elves loved music and poetry and tales. Bilbo noted that they seemed to like them as much as food, or more. And though the Hall of Fire stood empty and quiet during most days for those who wished for peace, and thought, it seems that at nights it was given over to the singing of songs and telling of tales. A gathering place for the folk of Rivendell. Think of Elf-minstrels playing music and singing of the stars, of Valinor, of other Elven lands of the present and from times past, hymns to Elbereth and yet more; scholars and poets recounting the renowned tales of the Elder Days, and original stories of others; Elven-maidens and Elf-princes here and there dancing, and others in converse. This vision which even now you may see with your mind's eye, the event aims to reflect. Contribute as you can, and as little or much as you wish.
And though other races (dwarves or men in small numbers, driven by a reasonable purpose which brings them to the Valley at long whiles) are not turned away but welcomed as guests in the Last Homely House, this is first and foremost an Elf-event.
So come -both learned and beginners- (from all servers) for a good time, in hope that we may unite the Elf-role players in LotRO, once a week and every week; and evoke a wondrous elvish enviroment for all of us to immerse in, enjoy and marvel at; and build IC friendships which may last for countless days.
A few reminders for this event:
Please stay In Character as much as possible.
Be polite and courteous to those around you.
Keep music and song within the spirit of the lore.
