Old Faces and New

So many new faces in the Village these days, and one of them a thief. I thought my time o' prowling in the shadows was done, but these are strange doings the past days.

Lot's o' comings and goings up by the Mercer place, but all to do with goods and trade. The look of some o' those he hires is less than savoury, but sellswords ain't usually pretty. At least with that many guards about there wouldn't be any thievery there. Something about that place ... it seems 'angry' somehow, though I can't quite place my finger on it...

Seems that Prospector fella is back in town well and truly again. Saw him on the road up to the Warhorse a few times. Seems to have a lass on his arm at every turn. Well, good luck to him. Too much work, if you ask me...

'Tis summer and I see more and more folk out tending their cottages. Mistress Rose even has flowers a bloomin' in her yard...or they be cooking herbs...pretty though. I've notice a fellow goin' about helping folk whitewash and paint their cottages. Smiles too much, if you ask me. Might have a word if I see him down at the Warhorse. It's about suppertime, in any case. Last time I was down there I ran into my friend Wilbe Carver a' sitting with Hawthorne Quince. Poor man, brigands ran him and his Ma off their homestead and ruined the place, terrible business. Thorne always seemed a bit lost anyway, spoke of an older brother that took off into Southern lands years ago.

Business is good at the Warhorse. I think people are starting to realize that the provender there is as good as anywhere. Haven't seen the dark haired little mouse lately...her laughter and Mistress Rose's cooking made the place come alive, you ask me. Still need to have a look on the paths to the big house on the hill. Don't see much happening there these days, but looks can be decievin'...
